There's no place like home in Burleson, Texas

City Seal of Burleson TexasThere's no place like home. That's a familiar phrase many of us have heard. How true it is. My name is Lori Lusk and I am a contributing blogger for Reata Realty and also a long time resident of Burleson, Texas. This is where I call Home Sweet Home!

Like many folks I have grown up with, after graduating High School, I married and moved away from Burleson. I always longed to come back to my hometown. Finally, about 4 years ago, my family moved back to our old stomping ground and realized that there is no place like home. We have lived in many areas all around Texas but nothing compares to this area in our eyes. True, our families live nearby but it is more than that. Burleson and surrounding towns have so much to offer. We are amazed at how much this community has grown and developed over the years but still maintains a small town feel.

Our current Mayor as well as many of our city's leaders are homegrown raised right here in this town and attended Burleson schools. Many folks return to Burleson for the excellent schools. Most of the Elementary schools received an Exemplary rating from the Texas Education Agency and several held a Recognized status.

Many people who have grown up here end up returning to Burleson to raise their own families because of the location, (close to DFW area) the schools, the conveniences and the community development. One of favorite daughters is Kelly Clarkson.  The city has a phenomenal online presence with easily accessible information through the city's website as well as the BISD website. The city's Information Systems Director is constantly seeking how to keep the city up to date with the newest technology. He brought in the new broadband wifi network so the city has a 12 square mile coverage for home and business users. Our Mayor has drawn many large business owners to our town as well. In fact we will be opening a new version of the H.E.B. stores this summer which will be very similar to the Central Market stores also owned by the H.E.Butt family.

I will wrap up this blog entry for now, but I plan to highlight some of the many exciting things going on in the Burleson and surrounding areas in the weeks ahead.

The Benefits of Sandy Soils for Farming and Ranching in Burleson, Texas

If you are looking for a rural setting to put down some roots, try looking in the area just south of Fort Worth, Texas. For excellent farming and ranch land with amazing soils.  The Texas towns of  Burleson, Joshua and Cleburne areas have a rich beautiful strip of sandy loam where the Oak trees grow big and beautiful. This soil is rich and easy to work in.

Coastal Bermuda grows thick and tall and makes nutrient rich hay for cattle and horses. This soil in the Burleson area is also easy on your horses' hooves and doesn't pull shoes off like the black clay can when it gets wet and sticky. There are many horse ranches in this area. Most are attracted to the sturdy oak trees and natural creeks and ponds that are native to this area.

If you like farming, the soil is so easy to work in as you plant gardens, orchards or just want a nice yard to enjoy. This rich soil maintains a good balance of keeping the moisture in, but also drains quicker than most clays. Therefore, plants and grasses tend to maintain a more stable water usage. This is Texas, so we do have to water regularly but the rural areas that have this wonderful sandy loam are quite nice to work with and easy to maintain. Fruit trees grow quickly and produce nice fruit in a short time. The sandy loam makes any kind of planting much easier than the hard clays.

There are quite a few local farms that bring produce to the local Farmer's Market held in Burleson at Clark and Renfro streets from 8am-2pm every Saturday through the summer growing season. Join us for fresh home grown produce.

So if you are considering a rural setting and country living at its best, consider the towns just south of Fort Worth on I-35, exit Burleson 174 and it will take you through Burleson, Joshua and then on to Cleburne. You might find a new place to hang your hat.

  • Burleson, Texas Country Living with City Conveniences

Posted Under: General Area in Burleson  |  May 7, 2010 5:53 PM  |  419 views  |  No comments

Welcome to Burleson. A city just south of Fort Worth, Burleson has a wonderful country atmosphere along with many modern facilities.

The town was founded in 1881 and named for Dr. Rufus C. Burleson, President of Baylor University in Waco. Burleson was a thriving community in its early days because of abundant water supplies as well as lots of wooded areas and good farming soil. Situated on the edge of the rich black lands, the area is ideal for farming and ranching. Even to this day, many call Burleson and surrounding areas home. This location is an ideal distance to many of DFW's major cities and as Fort Worth is a cattle industry giant, it attracts many to this area.

Burleson has had steady growth through the years but maintains it's small-town feel. The city is constantly looking for ways to improve its services and offer more amenities to its residents. I'll be highlighting various new projects going on in the city as well as some of the rural areas that attract many cattle and horsemen in the coming weeks.

If you are looking for rural living with suburban conveniences, consider the Burleson and surrounding areas for your next home town.
