Living in and around Chicago, you may have heard the topic of Ravinia come up a couple times. If you know what it is and you’ve been, then it’s no secret to you that it’s a great hidden gem.Â
Ravinia is a nice outdoor venue home to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra(CSO) during the summer, and also home to many very big names performing at the relatively small venue. Think names like Journey, Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, Jewel, Gipsy Kings, and One Republic. Yes they are all performing at Ravinia this year.Â
The classical concerts are a great place for a date, or some place to enjoy the outdoors while sipping on wine and snacking on cheese, charcuterie and crackers. Lawn seating is best to spread out under the beautiful sky on a blanket and take in the great outdoors. Many CSO concerts last a couple hours and are $10 for unreserved lawn seating. Get there early for most shows to be able to stake off your preferred lawn spot, as the biggest shows tend to fill up so much so that it will be difficult to get a spot.
You can find out more and see their schedule here: http://www.ravinia.org/ Sorry, but Journey is already sold out… Â
TIP: College students get FREE lawn passes with college ID for all the Martin Theatre and Chicago Symphony Orchestra Concerts. Check here for more details: http://www.ravinia.org/CollegeStudents.aspxÂ
I’ve been here several times and feel it is a great place that is truly special to the North Shore. Have you been, do you have any stories to share, will you go this year? Share your tips and comments below…Â
