Another Open House
Tomorrow I get to do an Open House in a home that is very special. This type of home is certainly not the norm. It is so feature rich that I just love being able to go over the house's story with visitors and watch the appreciation of the architecture in their faces. Many of the features will not have been seen by many modern buyers. This is the part of the job that I like the most.
I think open houses are a great way for potential homeowners to get to know houses in which they have an interest. There is ususally a no pressure environment where people can look around, get design ideas, compare the homes to their own needs, and start to get excited at the prospect of moving into the new home. Don't forget there are often some terrific cookies to be had as well.
Whether it is the first time or not, buying a home should be fun! I always recommend that buyers do a little soul searching and come up with a list of wants and needs for their new palace and keep it in mind when they are looking. Even though they will be moving, there are aspects of their old place with which they have been comfortable that they will miss. Can the new home replace the old comforts? Think about that which you like in your current home, what you want in a new house, where you can compromise, and of course the dealbreakers.
I always recommend that family members and friends whose opinions you trust are part of the process. If they will spend a day or two traveling with you from open house to open house, then you will forever know that they are good friends! If you can, involve friends who are in the know. Your buddy the engineer, contractor, or carpenter can give you ideas and repair estimates that can help you to narrow down the choices. I also believe that it is always a great idea to have a licensed Real Estate pro working in your corner as well.
If you happen to be in the Haverhill, MA area on Suday afternoon, drop by and see my beautiful Victorian at 108 Chestnut St. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy the rest of the house hunting weekend! Best of Luck!!
