For single family homes in a four year period since the beginning of 2010  we are at the highest point in Chicago North Shoreyears for the number of contracts written during this time of year. 2013 had higher numbers through August but then dropped off and by September there were 271 contracts written for single family homes. Chicago Architecture Foundation's Open House Chicago

This weekend, October 18 and 19th  The Chicago Architecture Foundation’s second presbyterian church

Open House Chicago is a free public festival that offers behind-the-scenes access to 150 buildings across Chicago. This year brings the 4th annual Open House Chicago and people taking advantage of this event will get to explore beautiful Architecture in interesting neighborhoods of Chicago. There are Frank Lloyd Wright homes included and in the words of Open House Chicago:

"Have you ever walked by a building and thought, I wish I could see what’s inside?

Now you can. This weekend, Oct. 18-19,the Chicago Architecture Foundation is proud to present the fourth-annual Open House Chicago: a free, citywide festival that offers behind-the-scenes access to more than 150 buildings across the city.Explore historic mansions, hidden rooms, sacred spaces, private clubs, offices, hotels, iconic venues and much more—all for free. So gather your friends, plan your experience and get out there to see Chicago like you’ve never seen it before. 150 cool places."

These thoughts are similar to what I have felt and a big reason I become a Realtor because of this deep interest in beautiful, old, vintage buildings, their construction and design. You do not see the terracotta and building facades that were done in the past.

    Chicago Marathon October 12 2014

Many people in Chicago Land are getting ready for the Chicago Marathon which is Sunday 10-12. There are about 45,000 participants expected and it is sunny in the 50's and no clouds. Many roads are being Chicago Skylineclosed off for the event and besides all the people involved in the event, there are many spectators who will be out to watch and have a good old time. The whole city has been planning on this event for quite while.

    The Chicago Tribune says:

"About 45,000 participants will run the 26.2-mile route winding through 29 city neighborhoods. The route first heads north through the Loop to Lincoln Park before winding back south and west to the West Loop and then south to 35th Street in Bronzeville, finally ending in Grant Park. At the latest, all roads are expected reopen by about 4:30 p.m."

    Also

These are the main closures for the Loop area, starting as early as 5:30 a.m.:

    • Columbus Drive from Randolph Street to Roosevelt Road

    • Jackson Drive from Lake Shore Drive to Michigan Avenue

    • Balbo Avenue from Lake Shore Drive to Michigan Avenue

    • Congress Parkway from Columbus Drive to Michigan Avenue

    • Monroe Street from Lake Shore Drive to Michigan Avenue

    • Westbound Roosevelt Road from Lake Shore Drive to Michigan Avenue

You can check out the Marathon Web Site too.

It is a great challenge for people who have trained for this event and fun time for the city and people who are visiting.

Here is an interesting report taking a look at how the people came to find the home they purchased in 2013. This is Chicago Land based data but I feel it probably applies to many other parts of the country too. 47% of the people searched online for the properties and did a lot of the work on their own. I will say that I believe the numbers go even higher for 2014.

I have an out of town buyer couple who are coming next weekend from the east coast to entertain the idea of moving to Evanston IL and they are just shooting me emails letting me know what the itinerary should be. People are very busy these days and want to make sure that they make good use of their touring time. This is a couple who has 2 children that have moved on to having their own families so this is not youngsters.

The bottom line is that you need to provide the data these folks want so they can search on their own. I have multiple web sites with IDX searches and the tools Coldwell Banker gives me as well as using Active Rain to help in the marketing and a Wordpress blog site. It's all up to them where that data comes from. Click this Coldwell Banker link and you can do some Exploring on your own.

  • Chicago Ale Fest September 19 through 20th

Chicago Ale Fest September 19 through 20th

All you brew lovers do not want to miss out on the Chicago Al Fest which is taking place this weekend at Chicago Ale Fest337 E. Randolph St at Grant Park. Tickets are $50 general admission; $100 VIP; $20 designated driver . I am not sure what a VIP ticket gets you besides more beer than I could possibly drink. All kidding aside the great Metromoix says and I quote them:

This inaugural Grant Park beer fest from the organizers behind Naperville Ale Fest will bring together approximately 100 breweries from across the country, each pouring at least two beers during two sessions (Friday night and Saturday afternoon). The goal, founders say, is to offer some recognizable brews from Sierra Nevada, Stone and other big names, while also introducing people to smaller, local breweries including Flesk, SlapShot and Pipeworks. Tents and food trucks will set up around Buckingham Fountain, and the event will take place rain or shine. Admission includes 20 drink tickets redeemable for 3-ounce samples, with the option to purchase additional tickets for 50 cents. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Aug. 22 and partial proceeds benefit the Grant Park Conservancy.

This sounds like a lot of fun although I can't drink that many beers these days without feeling very full. Maybe they have some samplers. All those great Micro Brews sure are good. Back in my day all we had was Bud and Schlitz and if you were really lucky a Heineken and you you were really styling.

My hats off to Metromix, and the Chicago Ale Fest for making this happen.

Understanding your Expectations and Exceeding them

This is my words to live by when my team and I under my direction came up with a mission statement understanding your expectations and exceeding themand logo to show what we provide for our service. We thought about it and this is what we practice and believe in. Understanding your Expectations. That means it is our job to listen to you, do not interrupt but let the customer explain what they want without us in our typical salesperson role of wanting to get in all the words, just listen. Take it all in and come up with a plan that suits each client as an individual.

Exceeding them, as in doing above and beyond what the client asks for and providing excellent customer service and making the people happy. Finding the trusted contractors you might need advising the family on anything to make the transaction smoothly and showing pride in our work to make the new home owners or home seller feel they got their value in dealing with Noah Seidenberg Coldwell Banker Evanston and feeling that there is nothing that was not addressed. Showing you where to get your new utilities and locks re-keyed as an example. If there is questions we have a toll free line at (800) 859-7917 to deal with any questions or answers that may be needed to qualify for a job well done, day or night.

Taking pride in a job and treating people as we want to be treated is what this is all about
