Buying, Selling, Renting - Consider Hiring a Handyman or Handywoman - Wikipedia says...

ENERGY STAR in Affordable Housing

These are challenging time for many homeowners. Home repairs and improvements are often put on a back burner in the hopes that things will get better financially. Maybe you try to do-it-yourself and do not really have the skills or the time. Maybe you are trying to sell your home. Maybe you have decided to rent it on a short or long term basis. You have options. If you have major projects it is best to hire a professional licensed contractor or specific trades person. If you have a lot of smaller projects due to aging and neglect, a handyman might be a better, more flexible, more economical way to go.

What to do...

Create a list of everything that needs to be done. Inspect your home room by room, inside and out, write everything down in an organized manner. Then call a few handymen ( handywomen as well) and review your lists together and consult about the best way to break down projects in the most economical way possible. Sometimes it may not be what you imagine. Think about the multi-tasking abilities of a handyman. For example, while the plaster is drying on the patched walls, he (she) can changing hinges on doors, caulking, replacing a faucet, painting a closet, fixing a drawer than is not working well, etc.

Wikipedia Defines a Handyman as…

A handyman, increasingly known as a handyperson or handywoman, is a person skilled at a wide range of repairs, typically around the home. These tasks include trade skills, repair work, maintenance work, both interior and exterior, and are sometimes described as "odd jobs", "fix-up tasks", and include light plumbing jobs such as fixing a leaky toilet or light electric jobs such as changing a light fixture.

Handyman projects

The term handyman increasingly describes a paid worker, but it also includes non-paid homeowners or do-it-yourselfers. Tasks range from minor to major, from unskilled to highly skilled, and include painting, drywall repair, remodeling, minor plumbing work, minor electrical work, and furniture assembly (see more complete list below.) The term handyman is occasionally applied as an adjective to describe politicians or business leaders who make substantial organizational changes, such as overhauling a business structure or administrative division. In the past, handypersons have usually been men, and home repair tasks have been seen as a male-oriented activity, but handywomen are becoming more prevalent as well as women using the term handypersons to describe themselves.

When we consider consulting a handyman, we must consider also our budget at the same time.Home Improvement

I agree w/ this, great article but PLEASE use caution on picking the handyman! With unemployment being what it is, anyone that can wrap a tool belt around their waist is calling themselves a handyman! PLEASE get sound recommendations!
