Market as if you are running for Mayor

Perhaps the best marketing advice is this: Market as if you are running for Mayor.
 
Who you know is important but who knows you is more important. I need to say that again. Who knows you is more important.
 
If you were running for Mayor of a town you would want (1) Everybody to know your name and (2) Everybody to know your position on issues. In sales you want (1) Everybody to know your name and (2) Everybody to know what you sell. And, you want to be known in a favorable way; you want the vote.
 
Develop your marketing strategy as if you are working on a 1000 piece puzzle at your kitchen table. I am not good with puzzles but I notice that many people will start with the perimeter and then there are 'clumps' that just seem to stand out. Your goal is to put all the pieces together so that there is a beautiful finished product. The same thing with your marketing. You want your program to finalize into a beautiful finished product.
 
Perhaps you agree that this is the program to develop. Then, where do  you start? By joining small diverse groups. Of course the groups can be large but the chances of people getting to know you are better in small groups. Diverse groups? You have to fill in all the pieces. Here are some small groups I am in - note how different they are from each other:
 
A Business Ethics Group, 2 different Magic groups in different parts of the county, a Business Network Group, A Service Club, Board member of a non-profit, Member of the local Economic Business Group, and a Reading Partners group.... I could join a Church Group, a Guitar group, and perhaps a Toastmasters group. I think small groups are a valuable key to sales marketing.
 
Join small groups and get known . Remember it is not so much who you know but who knows you.
