The Beach isn't just for summertime!

I spent the day today on the beach at Assateaque Island just south of Ocean City, Maryland on the Delmarva Peninsula.

It’s just beautiful. The ponies of Assateaque will walk right up to you on the beach. You are not supposed to feed or touch them since they are wild ponies, it’s kind of hard to resist though.

Assateaque beach does have lifeguards, so you can swim in protected areas. There is also short and long term camping facilities. Many an evening I have spent further south on the Island on the part where 4 wheel drive vehicles are allowed on the beach. Big bonfires, grills a going, music blaring and lots of friends. We have a blast.

It’s also pretty cool to drive onto the beach during the day, bring your fishing poles, all your stuff to stay for the day, and hang out until dark for bonfire time.

The quality of life here on the Eastern Shore is second to none. I am very blessed.

Come on down to the beach. Soak up the sun, walk the boardwalk and have some great meals!  Bon appétit,

Our son Dylan, is a Professor at The University of North Carolina in Wilmington. In addition to being a great teacher, he is also the wonderful Coach of the UNCW surf team. His team had a competition in Sebastain Inlet, Florida this past weekend, and we wanted to pass on those results.

Congratulations to the team. We wish you all the best in the Nationals!

UNCW Surf Team Wins NSSA Easterns 

Over the weekend, the UNCW Surf Club's team took home first place in the College Team event at the NSSA East Coast Championships in Sebastian Inlet, FL. Two members of the team also took top honors in the College Men's division, Mike Powell (1) and Ian Tighlman (2). Local Kure Beach standout and UNCW team logger, Drake Courie also placed 6th in the Open Longboard division.

The team's efforts are to be commended and a special acknowledgement should be made to the team's coach, Dr. Dylan McNamara, who developed, motivated, and inspired the team to achieve this momentous victory. By winning Easterns, the team is well placed to receive an invitation to the NSSA National Championships early this summer in California.

This past Saturday (12/6/08) Ocean City, Maryland celebrated it’s annual Holiday parade. My husband, Kevin McNamara, went outside on the second floor balcony of our office and took these videos.  Lucky us, the parade went right by our office, so we had a birds eye view.  He didn’t capture the whole parade, just enough to give you a good feel for the festivities.
