I have the best job in the world! I get to sell "Sarasota School of
Architecture" properties and organize architecture tours for individuals and groups interested in art, history, preservation and modern design.
Here's one of my recently SOLD listings, the Bechtel House(1967), designed by Seibert Architects. This excellent example of Sarasota's mid-century modern architecture sold quickly to someone who understands and appreciates good design.
ABOUT THE BECHTEL HOUSE: Built in 1967, the Bechtel House was designed for a corporate executive and his wife, and is larger
than most Modern Sarasota properties, with 2,520 s.f. of
air-conditioned space. The Bechtel has many hallmarks of mid-century Sarasota architecture, including stacked-block walls, clerestory windows and sliding walls of glass. In addition, the Bechtel is a transitional house that moves toward the 1970's with its soaring, vaulted ceilings and concrete floors, versus the flat roofs and terrazzo floors found in Sarasota's architecture during the 1950's-1960's.
The Bechtel House has two bedrooms, a separate studio, two living rooms, a swimming pool,
two-car garage, spacious atrium, pond and courtyard. It is across the street from Greg Allman's old house (yes, of the
Allman Brothers Band!). Can you imagine the stories this place could
tell?
DID
YOU KNOW? I'm an active Realtor with SaraBay Real Estate and have other modern
properties available for sale, too. Nobody knows modern architecture in this area like I do. So please be sure to let me know if you are
interested in buying or selling a modern property - it would be a
pleasure working with you!
