Broker parties toned down this year

According to article from the real deal brokers have toned down their holiday parties dispite a booming new york market.

This quote was taken from the article
"
Similarly, clients of one real estate attorney who spoke with The Real Deal are reporting fewer and smaller holiday gifts from their own clients, where once they used to tell stories of gifts piled to the ceilings of their offices.

Commercial brokerages, coming off a difficult year, also opted for restrained celebrations.

That said, not everyone is reigning it in. For at least the third year in a row, Brown Harris Stevens and its sister brokerage Halstead Property celebrated separately at Guastavino's, a vaulted 15,000-square-foot event space nestled under the 59th Street Bridge at 409 East 59th Street. Agents, staff and management were all invited."

Only this year? In my area (NJ) realtors have toned down their Christmas parties for the past 5 years!

My local association had to tone down (wasn't overly lavish to start with) in the last couple years and actually went to a potluck style party.

Our Main Line real estate agent parties have never been what you would call lavish, at least by New York City standards but are hardly toned down. What is life without celebration?

A true and tested sign of the times.

I wonder if the good old days will come back

I think it is in poor taste to spend outlandish sums on parties when so many people are suffering in this economy.

I'd rather not have a lavish company party and realize that with cost cutting actions such as this, my employer was insuring the viability of his company and MY future employment with them!

I think that office parties are great for the comradery. We are blessed in that our Broker Steve Roberson still has a Christmas party for our office. Other offices in the area have changed from a dinner to a lunch but thanks to Steve and his Wonderful Wife Darlene we are grateful for the catered dinner, dancing, and great friendships. Even in tough times he still manages to cheerfully gather all his staff and celebrate the year past as well as the year ahead. We are very Grateful :)

Company parties are great for fellowship...with alcohol in absolute moderation!

And, let's remember all of the people who are losing their homes to foreclosure....
