Tips To Make Moving With Kids Easier

If you are selling your home in Bucks County, moving with children sounds like a nightmare just waiting to happen – but it doesn’t have to be!  If you approach the topic of moving appropriately with your kids, it will greatly diminish any stress they have about getting used to a new home, making new friends, and starting in a new school. Here are some great tips on moving with kids of all ages, which will make the experience enjoyable for both them and yourself!

·      Talk about the move. Answer any questions your children may have about moving – which will help to alleviate any fears they have. If the new home is within a reasonable distance, take them to it so they can see it for themselves and drive them around the neighborhood. Driving past their new school and new surroundings (such as the Little League ballpark or YMCA) helps as well!

·      Let them help with as much of the planning as possible. Kids love to get involved – allowing them to be a part of choosing the new home and/or neighborhood allows them to be a part of the entire moving process.

·      Allow your kids to pack their own things. Giving them that simple sense of security lets them pack their way, and gives them the confidence that they are trusted with their decisions.

·      Ensure they will not only make new friends, but will keep in touch with the old ones. This is crucial – kids need to know they will not lose their old friends. Letting them know they will not only keep the old ones, but gain many new ones in return will make them want to move to the new home!

Marty,
As always! Great information. Making a move with children can be a challenge as they are moving to a new area, they may not know anyone and making them part of the process is critical! Having moved 4 times myself with children, it does take some time to adapt. Again, great tips!

Great information for anyone in that situation. There is such a range of problems that parents encounter, depending on the ages of their children. Support is very important.

Great tips for moving with kids! Some parents seem to neglect the fact that their kids need help adjusting to the entire process so making them part of it is a great way to start. It'll help them understand and be sure to make this clear to them- why you have to move to a new home. Sometimes, it helps if they have new friends so I introduced my kids to my neighbors at eastern michigan university housing and they got along well and now they're best of friends.
