How to search for crime in DC? DC Crime Map is back up

Written by: Mark Rutstein

One of our favorite tools for potential homebuyers is back up and running. The DC Crime Map operated by the city has been down for months, but now it is back!

The DC Metropolitan Police Department has relaunched the tool that will help you track crime and let you know how safe your neighborhood is. The local blog DCist reported on the crime map last week.

We have tested out the new crime map, found HERE,  and it is greatly improved. You can search by street address, Ward, Police Service Area, ANC, or other geographic locators. The new map is quick and easy and breaks down the crimes for you. The crime map even included incidents that were from the day before and gives you the % change from the last year.

If you click on ‘view map’ it will break down the incidents and show you exactly where they happened in the neighborhood. You can click on what time of incident you would like to track and it will pop up on the map.

While we believe this is a great tool to check crime in a neighborhood – this should not be the only decision used when looking to buy a house. We have knowledge and experience of how safe a neighborhood can be. Contact me today and I will help inform you of every thing you may need to know before buying a house in DC.

If MPD keeps this up to date it will be a useful tool to all residents of DC. We are happy that it is finally back up and running.
