  • Fishing Clubs on Lake Oconee at Reynolds Plantation Georgia

Posted Under: General Area in Greensboro, Quality of Life in Greensboro, Parks & Recreation in Greensboro  |  June 7, 2014 6:10 AM  |  241 views  |  No comments

June brings endless summer days for fishing on Lake Oconee Georgia. Folks living in Reynolds Plantation know this secret and don't mind sharing it with their friends and family. The Reynolds Plantation social clubs are just as excited about catching the biggest and baddest fish in the lake, and those who own Lake Oconee waterfront homes know they have the best view to watch the action. Check out what this gated Georgia golf community is all about when property owners hit the water for the summer season in 2014.

While Reynolds Plantation is known for its award winning golf facilities, this lakefront neighborhood takes its competitive action to the water, as well. Fishing on Lake Oconee is a prime location for those that seek the biggest catch. The lake was formed by the Oconee and Appalachian mountains covers 18,971 acres with 347 miles of sparkling shoreline. Folks have exciting opportunities to catch their supper or earn trophies when they find out that each acre contains approximately 433 pounds of fish. Residents can choose superb golf but the Reynolds Plantation social clubs are actively involved with boating and fishing on Lake Oconee.

Reynolds Plantation owners can join the community’s fishing club known as the Lake Oconee Anglers. Currently the club has 54 active members and are always looking for more. These avid fishermen schedule monthly meetings, social excursions, shopping trips and tournaments around the Lake Oconee area. Most recently members of the club and owners of the gated Georgia golf community attended a fishing tournament on May 13, 2014. Twenty eight anglers took to the water and caught 91 keeper bass and averaged 1.78 lbs. per fish. These numbers broke a record for the Lake Oconee Anglers club, after they recorded their results for the 23rd Annual Tournament on April 11th & April 13th. The group caught the same amount, but their fishing skills and luck greatly improved this spring.

Owners of Lake Oconee waterfront homes can literally see the fish frolicking from their windows. Lake Oconee is known as one of the best locations to fish for largemouth bass in Georgia. The average summer water temperatures range from 80-88 degrees fahrenheit from June to August. During the summer months, the temperature of the water increases and the water level fluctuates giving fishing fanatics great opportunities to succeed.

Last June, the average water temperature was between 78-82 degrees fahrenheit and the clarity was lightly stained. The water level was considered a full pool, and the bass were predicted to be 12-15 feet deep. Crappie and lineside fishing were predicted as being “very good” and best during the mid-morning. Fisherman were advised to focus on brush piles or deep drop offs.

Retirees fishing on Lake Oconee will be impressed when they see the abundance of largemouth bass visible when the water level decreases during this year. Dark shaded areas around pillars and docks are where they hide, and members of the Reynolds Plantation social clubs are patient and ready to catch sunfish, bream and catfish.

It is a fishing frenzy in the gated Georgia golf community this year, but other activities like golf and tennis are available year round. Reynolds Plantation amenities include:

    • Six 18 Hole Championship Golf Courses
    • Six Resort-style swimming pools
    • Reynolds Golf Academy
    • Ritz-Carlton Lodge
    • Five Golf Clubhouses
    • 16 Tennis Courts with Stadium Seating
    • The 38,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art Fitness Center
    • Heritage Nature Center
    • Four Full Service Marinas with Boat Ramps
    • Lake Oconee Villages

The friendly lakefront neighborhood has a variety of properties and homes available to folks interesting in living on one of Georgia's best lakes. At Reynolds, it's easy to get plugged in as a newcomer with more than 30 active social clubs such as the Lake Oconee Anglers.

Literally, the grass is greener at Reynolds Plantation this fall season! Avid golfers are gearing up for a fantastic golf season at Oconee Golf Course in Greensboro Georgia. Soon to be open to club members, the Rees Jones designed golf course will be unveiled as the most polished of all of the golf courses at Reynolds Plantation with its new renovations. The upscale Lake Oconee gated community is nestled beside one of the best Georgia lakes around and golfers are anxious to see what its community and new golf course can offer residents this year.

While the Oconee golf course design remains the same, members of Reynolds Plantation can look forward to playing on a different type of grass. The Oconee course will follow in the footsteps of its fellow Reynolds Plantation courses, Great Waters and Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses, and upgrade its grass to hybrid bermudagrass. Other golf courses at Reynolds Plantation like The Landing and The Bob Cupp allow players to try their swing on TiffEagle grass.
