Margaret & Martin Jackson,  of the Tampa Florida Home Team at Keller Williams Palm Harbor were thrilled to visit the newly constructed Zero Energy home, as part of the Zero Energy America project.

Marc Rutenberg Homes has a new real estate project in Palm Harbor, FL-  The Zero Energy America house, called “Castaway III,” is located in Palm Harbor.

The 4,552-square-foot structure showcases energy-efficient building products and technologies including “next-generation” insulation and air sealing products, LG appliance, and ductless air conditioning.

Marc Rutenberg Homes, a Tarpon Springs-based homebuilder, in recent years has focused on environmental stewardship and the Zero Energy America initiative. This is certainly the way of the future:

When you visit, be on the lookout for:

• Wall blocks made from autoclaved aerated concrete, which is up to four times lighter than traditional concrete. It's also proving to be practically indestructible by either fire or wind. This alone is a great value in areas prone to hurricanes and wildfires!

• A stove top that uses electromagnetic induction technology.

Martin was impressed by the technology in every room- the kitchen appliances have advanced technology.

• On-demand solar water heaters- and when we were there, the water coming into the tank from the solar panels was at 135F, and regulated down to the lower temperature needed for a safe hot water system- and this is February!

• Roofing materials that reflect heat and stay cool, even in summer.

• The latest in low-energy LED lighting.

• Photovoltaic solar panels for the production of electricity to power the entire house. The zero-energy home is expected to generate more kilowatt hours than it will consume, Rutenberg said, bringing the net operating cost to zero. in fact, after selling EXCESS power back to the grid, the home makes a  net profit on the power bill.

• Paperless drywall that prevents mold and mildew.

Reclaimed river logs that are 80 to 100 years old were found in the bottom of river beds and are made of heart of pine, cherry and cypress. They're used in flooring and cabinetry.

How can we all benefit from these technological advances? In new construction, Marc Rutenberg leads the way. Margaret & Martin Jackson, Tampa Florida Home team, will be participating in corporate focus groups to understand more about what buyers are looking for, and are available to assist you in your home buying needs.

Can these technologies to incorporated into pre-built homes? YES, many of the key changes can be completed. if you ar ein the market for a home and are interested in adding energy efficient options, Margaret & Martin Jackson, and the Tampa Florida Home Team, based in Palm Harbor, can help, bringing specialists to the table that can meet your needs.

Mark Rutenberg Homes received a $2.1 million grant from the state to help create the Zero Energy America project and to take on the challenge of building zero-energy homes. The project will help educate a national audience through a two-hour documentary about the home and products used to build it. The documentary will shown on hundreds of PBS stations sometime soon

"It usually adds a 10 to 15 percent premium to the price of a home, but it will pay for itself in energy savings," Castaneira said. "And we can all retrofit our existing homes too. There are 120 million homes already built in America."

Margaret & Martin Jackson, and the Tampa Florida Home Team, based in Palm Harbor, are here to assist you. We were impressed with the range of options, and look forward to seeing this roll out to other new construction projects in Pinellas county.
