The North Texas area may soon be home to a new state park
as the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission is scheduled to meet next
week to consider the purchase of land 70 miles west of Fort Worth.
The 3,300-acre tract is near Strawn in both Palo Pinto and Stephens counties. Funds for the park were acquired when the Tarrant Regional Water District and Tarrant County purchased a 400-acre site near Eagle Mountain Lake that was owned by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 2008. At the time, the TPWD said the proceeds would be used to purchase land for a large regional park in the North Texas area.
Officials from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Staff have recommended that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission proceed with plans to purchase the land for the park. An official announcement is expected next week.
