Make your entryway a key selling point

Amid all the major rooms of the home that receive much attention when it comes to décor, believe it or not, the entryway is an essential part of your home, although it often goes overlooked.

An impressively decorated hallway gives a welcoming first impression to homebuyers, as they become intrigued enough to enthusiastically explore the rest of the interiors.

Hallways tell a lot about the rest of your home so they have to be functional and should fit into the overall style of your home. As this is the first thing homebuyers observe when they enter your home, so take your time to decorate it right and give the best first impression. Here are some very interesting ways to make your entryway a key selling point.

• Cleanliness is of prime importance for every part of the home and it’s even more important here, as a clean entryway is always welcoming. To keep the floor clean, use good quality rugs and mats. Don’t use heavy mats, as they are difficult to maintain.

• Take a more conservative stance if you decide to paint the walls of hallways because the color should fit into the overall theme of the home. Use the color of the room adjacent to the hallway or try and keep the paint neutral if it is visible from all points in the home. For narrow hallways, use lighter colors opening into the wide dark painted living room and vice-versa if enough light is entering the hallway.

• Decorate according to the space available. Don’t overcrowd the entryway if it leads directly to another room. If the hallway is narrow, use things to create an illusion of space like mirrors or vertical paintings. If your hallway is more spacious place some seating and plants in the area to keep it from looking bare.

• Lights can make it look even more beautiful. You can use great combinations of mirrors and lightening or you can use smoky lights in place of usual lights. Warm lighting creates an inviting feeling and has the desired effect you would hope to have on potential homebuyers. Using candles during visits is a great way to add a touch of style and reduce the chances on unwanted odor entering the house.
