Broward County Appeals to Young IT Professionals
Broward County luxury homes are about to get a boost as the county looks to appeal to more young, successful IT professionals.  Plans to broaden the amount of technology related employers and luxury amenities are already underway and will provide residents with excellent schools, reliable public transportation, vibrant culture and an active lifestyle.
"If you have MIT students who are coming to visit their grandmother or hanging out east of 95, they don't see a lot of businesses with [Blackberry maker] RIM or IBM logos during their visit. They're not downtown or in high-tech areas," said Bob Swindell, president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance – the development group working to recruit and nurture high-tech firms in Broward.
Broward currently fields a telecom cluster in Sunrise, and local schools are also assisting the effort by collaborating with businesses to provide training and certifications in IT fields.  "Work in the Cloud, Live in the Sun." is a slogan created by South Florida Technology Gateway, which focuses on the high quality of life that the region offers residents.
Hoping to grow its reputation as a trendy, upscale community, county officials are taking development cues from Austin, TX which grew during the 1980’s when the University of Texas, Sematech and Dell headquarters opened there.
"How do we get there? We work together," said Christopher Malter, a management consultant who co-chairs the Tech Gateway. "If it takes five years or 10 years, fine. Then, we'll be there."
