Being a Real Estate agent in Long Beach, I thought it would be a great idea to give you some information on the town and my reasoning for why I speak so highly of this fabulous, fun "City by the Sea."
Long Beach, NY is located on a barrier island off the South Shore of Long Island. To the West of Long Beach is Atlantic Beach, and to the East is Lido Beach and Point Lookout. Long Beach is less than a mile wide from ocean to bay. When referring to where one resides in Long Beach, people often refer to the East End or the West End. The East End consists of larger, more expansive property and houses. The West End consists of a variety of small bungalows; each street in the West End is named after a U.S. State.
Summertime brings together the local youths and college-aged students who rent bungalows in the West End. The local bars and clubs located on Beech Street in the West End flood with residents and out of towners who enjoy the fun "beachy" atmosphere and vibe that Long Beach has to offer.
The 2.2 mile boardwalk in Long Beach runs from Neptune Blvd to New York Avenue. Being a resident, I can honestly say that people make use of the boardwalk year round. However, the summertime brings the vast crowd of bicyclists, joggers and walkers from all over. Located right on the boardwalk are many beautiful, luxurious apartments and condos. Let me tell you, the views from some of these apartments are just spectacular!
Getting around in Long Beach is easy. The Long Island Rail Road is located between Edwards Blvd and Neptune on Park Ave. Long Beach is about a 45 minute train ride into New York City! Local taxi companies are found in Long Beach, even bike-riding taxis are available in the summer! Owning a bike here in Long Beach is a must! It is a great way to get around!
Long Beach holds the record for the largest Polar Bear Swim which takes place every year on Super Bowl Sunday. Thousands and thousands of people gather together and jump into the freezing cold water-brrrrrrr! Every year, the Long Beach Polar Bear Club raises money for the Make A Wish Foundation. It is a great fundraiser and a sight to see and partake in!
Check out the website for more information, www.longbeachpolarbears.org.
Summer concerts on the beach are open to the public. These concerts are a fun time, and provide a great opportunity to round together family and friends, sit back and relax and/or dance and sing to some great tunes! What makes it even better is it being located right on the beach - nothing better than great music and a beautiful sunset! The annual Arts and Crafts Festival on the boardwalk consists of numerous craft vendors selling jewelry, gifts, furniture, art,
food, etc... This year the festival takes place on July 18 and 19th, and is located on the boardwalk between Edwards Blvd and Long Beach Blvd. I love this festival and find many great things to buy!
Also, in the summer, there are various beach volleyball leagues. I play in the Evolutions Volleyball League on Thursday nights and look forward to this every week! It honestly is so much fun. My friends and I have many many laughs and such a great time!
I could not be any happier with how much Long Beach has to offer. I have established many friendships living in this beautiful "City by the Sea." It is a very laid-back atmosphere here in Long Beach with many friendly faces! Although there are many summer rentals, nowadays it seems people are living here year round and never want to leave! At times, I feel like I'm on a vacation here with the beautiful beaches and lively environment!
