Are you ready for the sounds of the New Jersey Pine Barrens?
While there's music every Saturday night...this Saturday, January 10th, the Albert Music Hall in Waretown, NJ celebrates the 12th anniversary of the 'New' Albert Music Hall. What a great evening is planned.
Doors open at 6pm and a video of the Music Hall construction is on tap. Music begins at 7:30pm with Fandango Sky. Click here for a complete line up. Admission is $5 for adults and children $1.
Music in the Pinelands began in the 50's, when the Albert Brothers, George and Joe, would invite musicians to their tiny hunting shack deep in the Waretown, NJ Pinelands.
New songs and old songs and many of their own creations would ring out to a few friends who would venture down the long sandy lane through the pines. Their cabin was known as the "Home Place" by the few lucky people who went there.
The word spread and the number of musicians increased, as did attendance by those just dropping by to listen.
When fiddler George Albert died, Brother Joe found it hard to manage the ever growing Saturday night group. The New Jersey Pinelands were silent for about 6 months.
But you can't keep a Piney down, so the music moved to a large room at the Waretown Auction on Route 9. And the "Sounds of the Jersey Pines" again echoed through southern Ocean County.
The Pinelands Cultural Society (PCS), formed around the original few from the "Home Place", and Albert Music Hall was the outcome of this venture.
Today there are hundreds of musicians who have been a part of the "Sounds of the Jersey Pines". The Society's goals include preservation and stimulation of interest in pinelands musical heritage.
PCS planned the building program, with visions of a hall for aspiring musicians, young and old, to learn and perform.
It is now a place where music can be given back to the people. The building is called Albert Music Hall, after the two Albert brothers who opened their hearts and home to a handful of musicians so many years ago.
The Pinelands Cultural Society's new Albert Music Hall building at 131 Wells Mills Road, Waretown, NJ is a 6000 square foot building, dedicated and officially opened on January 5, 1997.
Listen, it's the sounds of the Jersey Pines! See you there!
