Chicago Property Owners...Time to Winterize!

If you live in Chicago or own property in Chicago then you know you have a bit of work ahead of you.  Not hard work.  Not difficult work.  Necessary work.  We are now in the month of October so if you have not started thinking about winterizing your home, condo or investment property...now is the time.  The following is a check list of the things that you need to check now.  Many problems that arise after the first big snow can easily be prevented by taking care of issues beforehand.

So take a look at my 'quick check' list below and get to work!  Believe me, you will feel much better when the snow is on the ground.  You will be able to relax in front of your fireplace, lounge in front of your television and enjoy a good movie...or a great Bears game or even find a nice quiet place and read a good book.  The one thing you will NOT be doing is wondering why your furnace is not working!

Indoors:

1. Check your Emergency Kit !

2. Check all Smoke Alarms and Carbon Monoxide detectors.

3, Clean/vacuum out the dust in your Furnace and Replace the Filter

4. Test the Furnace ( on a cool evening )

5. Use a candle or incense to check for drafts around doors and windows. Don't forget electrical outlets on exterior walls.

6. Check attic Insulation.

7. Check for any Plumbing Leaks and Insulation on water lines.

8. Reverse your ceiling fans.

Outdoors:

1. Check your Garden Hose Spickets for Leaks.

2. Check Foundation Vents.

3. Check around Windows and Doors.

4. Check/Clean Gutters and Downspouts.

5. Check your Dryer vent.

**Please remember to call a PROFESSIONAL to inspect electrical and plumbing that you suspect might have a problem**
