  • Tea At The Arboretum A Spring-Time Treat

Posted Under: General Area in Dallas, Quality of Life in Dallas, Parks & Recreation in Dallas  |  March 28, 2013 11:07 AM  |  502 views  |  No comments

Tea at the Dallas Arboretum is a traditional spring-time treat for M-Street and Lakewood residents—especially during Dallas Blooms.  My friend Shelia sent me this report the other day:

Great service at Dallas Arboretum is a rite of spring."Set in the dining room of the DeGolyer, the first course was a heavenly ginger carrot broth and cheese pinwheel.  Creamy and seasoned to perfection, the soup was truly out of this world. The tier of sandwiches included traditional cucumber, egg salad, cream cheese and chicken. Delectable deserts of lemon tarts, dipped strawberries and chocolate truffles finished the meal.  Did I mention the blueberry scone with jam and clotted cream?

"Tea options were selected to compliment each course.  Nelson, a long time employee of the DeGolyer, did a superb job of serving and bringing a little 'tea-ology' to the table.

Residents of the M Streets and Lakewood are lucky to have the Dallas Arboretum nearby. After tea, a walk through the gardens was like being in a bouquet of spectacular color and smell.  There was a new 'awe' moment around each corner.  The arboretum is a photographer’s dream come true, a picnic paradise. and a much-loved adventure for young and old alike."

M-Street and Lakewood residents are lucky to have the Arboretum in our backyard. Because it is so close at hand, we can easily take advantage of all it has to offer in each season of the year.

  • 31st Annual North Texas Irish Festival

Posted Under: Quality of Life in Dallas, Parks & Recreation in Dallas, In My Neighborhood in Dallas  |  March 1, 2013 7:19 AM  |  339 views  |  No comments

    What: North Texas Irish Festival

    When: March 1-3, 2013

    Where: Fair Park in Dallas

Don your finest kilt, grab your uillean pipes, and head to Fair Park tonight for the start of the NTIF—the North Texas Irish Festival. It’s all things Celtic at the 2013 North Texas Irish Festival, the largest celebration of Irish culture in the southwest.

North Texas Irish Festival at Fair Park in Dallas, TexasTop Irish musicians and dancers from around the world along with a variety of cultural presentations will be featured on 13 stages at Fair Park.

Enjoy a bowl of Irish stew or Shepherd’s pie from one of the many food booths featuring traditional Irish cuisine, and wash it down with a glass of Guinness.

Cooking presentations from top chefs will modernize Irish classics presenting fare that attendees can then taste. Whiskey tastings, blacksmithing demonstrations, archery in a Celtic village, Gaelic football and horse displays allow everyone to experience Celtic culture.

The children can enjoy Urchin Street with a petting zoo, safety demonstrations and art activities. And, of course, storytellers will weave tales of Celtic lore.

This is a cultural event you won’t want to miss, and a real favorite with residents of Lakewood and the M Streets.
