The Caltrain HSR Compatibility Blog posted on Dec 29, 2012 an article titled "Grade Separation: The Decadal View" showing what the High Speed Rail plans. Homeowners living near East Meadow Rd or Charleston Rd have been very concerned about the impact of the HSR.
The blog post shows that these crossings are planned to be grade separated by both raising the tracks and trenching the roads to go beneath them. This is planned to be completed in the late 2020s. High speed travel requires very gentle changes in direction. These crossings seem to assume a raised track through south Palo Alto.
An earlier post dated Dec 21, 2008 shows that the University Ave train station will have to be modified because curves in the tracks do not support high speed travel. The east side of the station platform and the University Ave overpass are predicted to be very strongly impacted.http://julianalee.com/blog/community/high-speed-rail-road-crossings/http://caltrain-hsr.blogspot.com/
