This morning in Steamboat I woke up to the first signs of winter, especially for North Routt residents who normally see the impending winter while locals down south (downtown Steamboat-ites) are practically basking in the sunshine. Even though its only 40 minutes drive away, North Routt (aka Gateway to the Zirkels) generally sees signs of frostbitten chipmunks long before Steamboat starts packing away the last of their beach gear.
Up at our cabin on Seedhouse Road, we got out to warm up the car around 6:30 the temperature read a balmy 7 degrees. Yep! Here it is, even before Halloween, and its only 7 degrees! I feel like I should be experiencing 7 degrees of separation from this cold and head to Moorea. But when I got in the car, I was reminded of why I love this place - and why I live here. Sitting in the back seat, along with the dog and cat, was a brand new pair of Blizzard Titan EOS 166 skis! Yeah hoo! One thing about Steamboat, is that you can give back so much, and the night before we attended a fundraiser for the Samoan Tsunami Survivors, and bid on these skis. An early Valentine's present, my heart was stolen! So...if you wanna get jazzed about the upcoming season, but have a hard time getting through what it takes to get from 0 to 500 inches, go out and get a new pair of skiis!
