Good article in the NYT about people who are forced to sell their homes in a down market.

It is about NYC homeowners but could apply equally to Palo Alto homewoners.  "As most homeowners hunker bearishly inside their largest depreciating asset, one unfortunate contingent has no choice but to wade into the storm-tossed market."

Also, a great article in last week's WSJ about the value of home ownership.

It cover many of the topics discussed on these Palo Alto chat boards: real estate bubbles vs. the long view; own vs. rent; the notion of "imputed rent"; how to calculate ROI; only buy if you really like the house & the neighborhood; the non-financial benefits of home ownership; should home ownership be considered only in financial terms; etc.
