Warming -up for the 2008 New York City Marathon!
There is a palable feeling of excitement in the air as marathon participants, their families and supporters gather in NYC today, in preparation for tomorrow's Marathon!
It's a beautiful day, somewhat overcast but a quite warm 66 degrees at 2pm.
People are streaming and strolling through Central Park,
some warming-up, some sight-seeing and some just loading up on carbs!
Over at Tavern on the Green there was a Barilla Pasta sponsored event,
with video crews recording all the comings and goings..
Many people optioned to get brown cardboard take-out containers of food
from the endless bountiful buffet at the Whole Foods (in the Time Warner Center)
located at Columbus Circle and eat from them sitting on Park benches.
In the Park toward Central Park South just by Columbus Circle there is a stage with music pounding from the loud-speakers and a coach/dj who is
egging people on, they are dancing, prancing cheering and doing warm-ups!
(The Marathon is a little different this year as they are having various
groups leave at different times to avoid overcrowding..
People will be timed as to their performance in the race...)
I overheard someone saying that tomorrow on one of the many
stages that are set-up,there will also be live bands playing!
The porta-potties were still all locked up, so the bathrooms in Central Park
near Columbus Circle and the Ferrara Cafe kiosks were getting quite a workout,
I suppose the public bathrooms in the Time Warner Center were also..
(I've always thought the reason that there are Starbucks every few blocks on Columbus Avenue is because they have the only available bathrooms!)
Well that's it from Manhattan and the upper West Side today,
here's wishing you all a Spectacular and Fun Marathon!
DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS tomorrow, SUNDAY at 2:A.M.
so REMEMBER to set your clocks back, one hour before you go to sleep!
