Lago's Lone Oak Ice Cream...A Sure Sign of Spring in Seacoast NH

Lago's Lone Oak Ice Cream...A Sure Sign of Spring In Seacoast NH
As we come out of one of the toughest winters in recent history here in New England, we are all anxiously awaiting those first signs of Spring. This past Winter brought us over 70" of snow with some 80 roof collapses of homes and businesses here in the Northeast. Along with the snow, we had unrelenting cold temperatures without the slightest hint of our characteristic "January thaw." There is no doubt we are ready to put Winter 2010 - 2011 in our rear view and move on to Spring.

For some, spotting the first Robin, or seeing a Crocus peeking out of the planting bed is considered the first sign of Spring. For our neighbors to the South, those rabid Red Sox fans eagerly await the first pitch at Fenway. But residents of Seacoast New Hampshire know Spring is here for certain on the day Lagos Lone Oak Ice Cream on Route 1 in Rye, NH opens for its first day of business for the season on Friday April 1st.

The history of Lago's Lone Oak Ice Cream goes back to 1946 when Mike Lago bought a 60 acre plot in Seabrook, NH that became a dairy, and raised cows and chickens. Mike delivered milk to the Seabrook residents and became well known around town. Among other business enterprises, Mike founded Lago's Lone Oak Ice Cream with his first location on Route 125 in Rochester, NH in 1976 and followed shortly with the Rye location.

Visitors to Lago's Lone Oak Ice Cream have come toLagos IceCream Sign expect ice cream that is made daily on the premises in up to 80 flavors that include some local favorites like Cappucino Slam, Kahlua Fudge Brownie, Muddy Sneakers and S'Mores, and many other creations invented by the energetic young employees.

Lago's Lone Oak Ice Cream is dedicated to helping the community by providing part-time and seasonal summer jobs to high school kids and college kids trying to save money. Many return year after year to help General Manager Steve Grenier fill some jobs and fill some cones...in fact, lots of cones. Lago's is a busy spot in the summer with customers happy to wait in the long lines at the order windows. They know they will be treated with courtesy and respect and get the best ice cream, sundaes, banana splits, frappes, freezes and floats on the Seacoast.

Oh, and did I mention Award Winning? You can find Lago's Lone Oak Ice Cream winning New Hampshire Magazine's "Best of New Hampshire" year after year. They have also been voted "Best Milkshake/Frappe in New England" in NECN's "Baby You're The Best Contest."

Of course, winning awards comes easily for the Lago family. Perhaps you might have heard of 2010 Winter Olympic Bronze Medal Snowboarding Champion, Scotty Lago, Mike's grandson.

So stop in and say "Hello" to Steve at Lago's Lone Oak Ice Cream and tell him "Some guy on the internet told me to do this." : )
