What could be better than a balmy evening on a Key West beach with a full moon?
let me start by acknowledging that the United States has several island
territories in the HEART of the Caribbean Sea that are more accurately
depicted as Caribbean islands. Key West, however (and the rest of the
Florida Keys) are at the northern edge of the region of the world known
as the "Caribbean" which starts at the southernmost tip of mainland
Florida. And one thing Key West has that those southern islands don't
is a highway that conveniently connects us to the continental United
States. Don't underestimate the value of being able to hop in the car
and be in a major metropolitan U.S. city in just a few hours!
geography 101 is now complete, let's get on with the wonderful,
tropical Paradise that is Key West and could be your next home (or at
least your "home away from home").
What does it take to make a
great Caribbean getaway? First, and foremost, it takes beautiful
emerald green water and coral reefs.

And I'd say you've got yourself a Caribbean getaway fit for a king!
West is the largest city in the Florida Keys, lying nearly midway
between the eastern end of North America's only living coral barrier
reef (which starts at the southern tip of mainland Florida) and the Dry Tortugas (western terminus of the main body of the reef). 90
miles to the south of Key West lies Havana Cuba, and Bahamian territory
is just 60 miles southeast. The year round temperature is relatively
steady with a record low of just 42 degrees farenheit and a record high
temperature of only 97 degrees farenheit (way back in 1880!). The
average high temperature in winter (January, the coldest month) is 75F
and the average summer high temp (August, the hottest month) is 89F.
prices in Key West are a bit higher than the US average, largely due to
demand and the fact that they really aren't making any more land down
here since the US Government stopped doing that years ago (about half of
Key West's land mass consists of dredge spoils or "fill").

today's market, one can expect to find a nice 1 BR condo for as little
as $200k, with the low end for a nice single family home coming in just
under $300k. Of course, for those with more buying power, there are
some beautiful showcase homes at the top of the market for $3M-$5M, and a
few outliers above the $5M mark.

with charm, overflowing with nightlife and abundantly supplied with
culture, this little island has something for everyone. But one of it's
greatest draws is the "Salt Life". Did I mention that we have the only
living coral reef in North America?
diving, snorkeling, SNUBA, beach-going, deep-sea sport fishing,
back-country sport fishing, spear fishing, lobstering, shell collecting,
sleeping by the pool. It's all part of a great way of life.
We don't eat them anymore, we just enjoy seeing them in their natural habitat!
