After a warm weather jump start at the end of Winter it seems Spring has officially arrived on the Door Peninsula. Everywhere the tulips and daffodils are in bloom and there are hints of the apple and cherry buds about to blossom. With freeze warnings predicted during the next week we are hopeful the fruit crops are spared any damage.
Our posts haven't been frequent thus far in 2012 because The Adams Team has been so busy listing and selling real estate throughout the county and here in Sturgeon Bay. We are happy to report the Adams Team closed over $1 million in sales during the first quarter of this year. Elsewhere on the peninsula, other Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Group team members are experiencing similar activity as the real estate market begins to show signs of improvement after several sluggish years.
We'll report more on some of the latest real estate statistics in future blogs but we want to make sure you were all aware of the big Green BayPackers Tailgate Tour coming to Sturgeon Bay on Saturday, May 19. This annual whistle stop tour around the state is an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the Packer greats. This event will benefit Door County Habitat for Humanity which is currently building its 34th home on the peninsula. You won't want to miss this first ever event of its kind here in Door County.
For more information on tickets stop in at Main Street Market in Egg Harbor, Marchant's in Brussels, Pic 'N Save in Sturgeon Bay and of course the Door County Habitat for Humanity office in Sturgeon Bay. Links to the Green Bay Packers Tailgate Tour and Door County Habitat for Humanity can be found on our
website (jimandlinda.com). You can also get information by calling 920-743-2869 or Jim at 920-559-7857.
We look forward to seeing you at Sunset Park on Saturday, May 19th.

We are getting some good news regarding Door County real estate. Recent housing statistics released by the Wisconsin REALTORs Association (WRA) show the number of sales up 29 over 2010 and 27 over 2009. The 2011 sales are nearly identical (438 to 440) to the number of homes sold in 2008 but the median price dropped to $172,000. The numbers show that homes are selling if they are priced based on the current market. The 7.1% increase in home sales from 2010 to 2011 is an encouraging sign as is the slight increase in statewide sales and the northeast region.

Yes, we know we are playing on words when we say "hot" properties but with temperatures in the '90s right now we are accurate when we talk about "hot" properties on the Door Peninsula. Don't worry about the temperatures because the 250 miles of coastline ringing this county means there is always a quick way to cool off and enjoy the best that Door County has to offer...the waterfront...or if you prefer the cool treats at Not Licked Yet or Wilson's Ice Cream.
Did you know there are four state parks featuring spectacular water vistas and dozens of town and county parks that offer opportunities to soak up the sun and enjoy the beach? As agents with Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Group we can help you find your own slice of heaven with all the beachfront amenities you deserve. We currently have bayside vacant parcels and lakeside retreats. If you want a spectacular view of the waters of Green bay please call us about our new listing on Bluff Ledge Road. The Adams' Team can be reached by calling 920-559-7005.

As Memorial Day Weekend approaches we are happy to report the first signs of cherry and apple blossoms around the county. A drive up the peninsula this week revealed fruit blossoms in Sevastopol as well as Egg Harbor and Fish Creek. We suspect the southern part of the county has even more blossoms to welcome the weekend visitors.
The upside of the extra rain this Spring means the hillsides and lawns are green and lush and the water levels are holding steady.
Each agent in the Sturgeon Bay office of
Coldwell Banker the Real Estate Group reports continued showing activity and new listing appointments indicating what we have previously experienced, a stronger market this spring than the previous two years. The
Adams Team will close one property this week and two more by June 15. Be sure to check out
http://jimandlinda.com/ website for our new listings as well as the commercial opportunities available here in Sturgeon Bay.
Enjoy the weekend ahead, we hope each of you has some time to think about the solemn meaning of the holiday weekend and to enjoy some time with family and friends.

It's good to be back in Sturgeon Bay, WI after traveling 1600 miles to Tennessee and back. Sadly, we had the opportunity to view firsthand some of the flooding that occurred in the south. Near the Ohio River in both southern Illinois and northern Kentucky we saw hundreds of homes and businesses that suddenly had "water frontage" when the river banks overflowed.
On our return journey through those locations we saw clean-up underway as the waters began to recede leaving behind mud and debris. Homeowners were literally digging out from under the mud inside their homes. Sandbags were everywhere and at one waterfront hotel large plows were scraping the mud and assorted debris from the parking lots.
Here in Door County there is often some dismay over Shoreland Zoning regulations when owners want to build on their waterfront properties within the designated "high water mark." I don't know if there were similar regulations in place in the south but perhaps some of those homes and businesses would have been spared destruction and extensive damage if stringent guidelines were in place when those homes were built.
It certianly has been a difficult year for our southern neighbors but as we post this blog we have to say that Spring has definitely arrived in Door County with tulips in bloom and cherry and apple buds forming on the fruit trees along the peninsula. On our return trip we saw trillium in bloom and even passed a swarm of mayflies. We are looking forward to a beautiful spring.
Oh, and business is definitely picking up in the home sale category so don't forget to call the Adams Team if you are looking to buy or sell a home in Door or Kewaunee Counties.

Following the tumultuous global events of the past two months it is good to know there are some constants in this world. We were pleased and proud to hear of the efforts underway by REALTORS in so many parts of this country to aid the tornado ravaged communities in Alabama and Mississippi.
This blog last week wondered how we might help the residents of Tuscaloosa and beyond and while we were pondering online we have learned that REALTORS in so many neighboring states had already loaded up vehicles with food, water, clothing and even diapers which they then drove to Tuscaloosa and elsewhere.
Once we heard a speaker answer a querry about disasters being a "test from God." We've never forgotten the response. "Yes, these tragedies are a test from God...they are God's test of man's humanity toward his fellow man."
In these days of a halted economy, rising oil prices, and international turmoil we are always happy to hear the small stories of heroism and help. Sure the housing market is in a slump but when you see the pictures of the devastation that has taken place in the south it makes our complaints seem minor.
If you readers haven't found a way to assist our Southern neighbors we've discovered the Alabama REALTORS have set up a fund for help. Checks can be mailed to: Alabama REALTOR Disaster Relief Fund, PO Box 4070, Montgomery, AL 36103.
