* Financial incentives for servicers participating in the program include up to $1,500 servicing bonus upon completion of a short sale or deed-in-lieu
* Financial incentives for investors include up to $2,000 for those who allow a total of up to $6,000 in short sale proceeds to be distributed to subordinate lien holders.

The following is an overview of the significant changes to HAFA policy.
1. HAFA Opens Arms to More Homebuyers:
Servicers are no longer required to verify that a borrower’s mortgage payment exceeds 31%of his or her monthly gross income. This had been a major bottleneck to close deals on the HAFA timeframe.
2. Timelines Extended to Assist in Relocations:
One of the most significant changes in the directive alters the timelines regarding property vacancy, in addition to the relocation distance requirement. The new guidelines allow for a property to be vacant or rented up to 12 months prior to application date. Additionally, provisions regarding the cause of relocation and relocation distance have been eliminated.
3. Junior Lien Holders Incentivized:
Elimination of the 6% payout cap to junior lien holders will reduce pushback, especially for borrowers who owe less than $100,000, which is a great percentage of distressed homeowners.
4. Ask and You Shall Receive:
Borrowers requesting HAFA assistance must be issued a response within 30 days, even if they were not directly notified of their eligibility by their servicer.
5. Executed Contracts:
Alternative Requests for Approval of Short Sale (A-RASS) must receive an approval, disapproval, or counter-offer within 30 days, tremendously increasing a transaction’s efficiency.
6. Deed-for-Lease:
This previously excluded deed-in-lieu alternative program is now eligible for certain HAFA benefits, given a successfully executed DIL.
7. Simultaneous Eligibility:
This provision clarifies that borrowers can be evaluated for HAMP and HAFA simultaneously.
8. Borrower's can still receive $3,000 to move out of the home!!
