I am always looking for new things to do and try especially for my son. Trapeze Pro in Sonoma is the perfect place for a fun family day. Today my husband, son and I signed up for a class to learn how to Trapeze. Up a windy road 3 miles from the Sonoma square is Keen Ranch, host of Trapeze pro. It is a rural, beautiful setting with a stream running through the property. When I first saw the structure I did have a moment of wondering to myself if this was appropriate for my 6 year old or if I was going to scar him for life.
Marek, the lead instructor has been teaching trapeze for 30 years and after speaking with him for a few moments it became clear nothing would happen to any of us under his watch. The class is generally two hours. The first half hour teaches basics which you learn on the ground. After that, you get ready for the Trapeze. You climb a very narrow ladder to the platform which is a solid 40 feet off the ground. Then with an instructor holding you, you lean forward, grab the bar, bend you legs and jump; then half way through the air you wrap your legs through the bar and hang upside down with your arms pointing toward the ground.  Sounds simple but from 40 feet up I was trying to figure out the worst case scenario. Realistically the worst case is you fall into the net but you have wires on and someone is holding the wires so realistically worst case you slowly float to the net. Cool, so I jumped
Next it was my son's turn and I was a little worried he would change his mind at the top. Nope, no fear. He jumped (he is in white)
He loved it!! My husband loved it!! I was thrilled to get them out of the house and both are already telling me that we are going back next weekend and the weekend after etc..Â
It was a great experience and I think that having an experience like that is a great confidence booster. It is hard to be afraid to try new things when you have already jumped off a 40 foot platform holding a bar. And best of all; I knew it was all safe.Â
I would encourage anyone thinking of trying something new to try Trapeze. At $35 a lesson it is a deal and it truly is flying through the air. My son has already decided that he would like to have his birthday party there next year:)
