Eyes & Ears: Preventive Medicine

Fellow Eyes & Ears

This week, it’s time to practice a little preventive property medicine. Drop some Visine into your eyes, Q-tip both ears, and be aware of:

-Missing or loose weather stripping around doors and windows; Wind-blown rain can easily enter these spaces, creating water damage; Replace in full, or, use glue to spot-repair

-Test water heater pressure: Turn off cold water, then pull the pressure valve (located on top of the unit), about halfway, allowing it to shut off on it’s own; If you hear gurgling or air, call a professional to replace the valve; A malfunction can cause hot water heater burst

-Pick up a simple Voltage Tester ($10-20) and insert into your wall outlets; any flickering or inconsistency can signal a short or uneven distribution, leading to electrical fires; ANY non-maintained, bright reading should be addressed by a professional

Please keep me in mind for anyone who’d benefit from my Public Adjusting and/or Asset Inventory services, and I’ll continue to do the same on your behalf. If you’d like, send me a similar reminder of what I should be on the lookout for. Thanks!
