Water Parks are fun in the Summer even for adults. Way cool!

Things are heating up, don't you think? Yes, the Real Estate market is hot with prices rising, but that is not what I am referring to. I am talking about the temperature. Time to cool off in Arizona

    Ideas to Cool Down

    • Water Parks or go surfing at Westin Kierland in Scottsdale or Big Surf
    • Resort Hotel at Summer Rates- "Staycation"
    • Salt River Tubing
    • White Mountains go to the pines and lakes
    • Air Conditioned Museums
    • Hang out in the veggie cooler area at Costco (One of my personal favorites, but hey that's just me!)
    • Go to the Ice Den and watch the skaters
    • Go to an aquarium and dream you are in San Diego
    • Go to a Summer Movie (get the $1.50 refill cup at Harkins) and chill
    • Rent a boat on one of our great lakes around Phoenix
    • Ice Cream and the Sugar Bowl in Scottsdale or your local creamery
     Stay cool my friend.

  • Hey it snows in Scottsdale too... I am so glad it was not worse!

I have never seen it this bad before! A blizzard in Scottsdale, Arizona. Snow to the left and to the right. We survived though!

Here I am in within hours of the great blizzard of February 20, 2013. I am so glad it was not worse!

Hey, you Easterners, Scottsdale gets winter storms too you know.

I actually had to put on a jacket. The palm trees and snow...oh my! At one point, I actually had to turn the heat on.

Children had to drink cocoa! Puppies had to put sweaters on. I thought I owned a pair of gloves at one time but could not find them.

As you can see, I even had to go outside and brave the "elements".

All parts of the country have their weather challenges. I learned my lesson this time. I will be prepared for the next blizzard in Scottsdale.

  • "Things to Do" in Arizona for January 2013

Things to Do in Arizona for January, with live updates for the most current activities out and about our state: "Things to Do" in Arizona for January

10 Fun January Activities for the Whole Family

The weather outside may be chillyl, but it certainly doesn’t mean you can’t find ways to have fun! Here are 10 family-oriented ideas to undo the winter blues while you’re waiting for Mother Nature to warm up.

1.Break out the board games. Put away the Smart phones and have some family fun and interaction. A great way to laugh and communicate.

    2. Put together a puzzle. Dig out that 1,000-piece puzzle, spread it across the living room coffee table and dig in!

    3. Build a fort. Pull out the extra linens, gather the leftover Christmas cardboard boxes and put together a fort that can hold the whole family.

    4. Go for a hike:. The McDowell Mountain Preserve in Scottsdale has over 20 miles of trails for all skill levels.

    5. Go to a Museum: Many choices here, Music Instrument Museum, Heard Museum, Phoenix Science Museum, Natural History Museum in Mesa, Arizona Historical Society Museum near the Phoenix Zoo.

    6. Head to the Snow. Head north to Flagstaff or Show Low for a burst of exercise and a little competition. Snowballs, sledding and Snowmen. Be sure and set rules (and the consequences for not following them) ahead of time.

    7. Get Crafty. Use white printing paper and show your kids how to make snowflakes. Or make homemade silly putty and let the kids be the masters of their own creations!

    8. Watch a movie. After you’ve exercised outdoors, head indoors for hot cocoa and a favorite movie.

    9. Bake. It’s easy to keep the kids entertained when you’re making chocolate chip cookies. Not only do they get to mix and roll ingredients, there’s a sweet reward at the end.

    10. Look through old photo albums. A little nostalgia is a good thing! Take out old photo albums or old home videos and reminisce about the good ole’ days!
