My DC Food Review: Merzi

DISCLAIMER: So, I’ve decided to write my thoughts about some of the recent restaurants I’ve visited over the past few months. I’m no food critic nor pretend to be…

What is Merzi?
I had the pleasure of experiencing Merzi for the first time a few weeks ago. Merzi is a healthy restaurant in Chinatown/Gallery Place, otherwise known as Penn Quarter neighborhood, serving a unique style of Indian cuisine. Merzi is located 415 7th Street Northwest Washington DC 20004.

According to the Merzi website: “Merzi, which means ‘choice,’ offers new interpretations of classical Indian flavors in a contemporary style. After collaborating with international chefs, Merzi brings the best flavors and cooking styles from the Indian.”

The Inside & Menu
Merzi is often referred to as the “Indian Chipotle.” Similar to Chipotle, you line up with your choice of rice, naan bread, chaat (a combination of chickpeas, tomato, cucumber, onions, peppers, and corn with spices) or salad. Next you have a choice of beef, shrimp, lamb, or chicken. Finally an interesting twist of warm and cold sauces.

I had the chaat and it was amazing! It lasted a whole 3 minutes on my plate before it was gone. I definitely give this venue 2 thumbs UP! I encourage you to try it and let me know what you think.
