The A.J. Meerwald is the official Tall ship of NJ!
It is owned and operated by the Bayshore Discovery Project a not for profit
educational organization that promotes the care and health of the environment,
history and culture of New Jersey's Bayshore region. Over the summer it moves
down the coast to different locations. It is currently docked at Gardner's
Basin in Atlantic City for another week! We went on a sail ride yesterday and
it was BEAUTIFUL. The trip was 2 1/2 Hours and the weather fantastic and relaxing!
Leave your cares on the dock and feel the wind on your face! Wear sunglasses
and a hat and forget about your hair do!Â
Experience history aboard this beautifully restored
1928 Delaware Bay Oyster Schooner. At 115 feet long there’s nothing scary about
this ride! Hear how it was part of the fantastic Oyster Industry of the
early part of the last century, and was commandeered during World War II! The
boat was virtually unrecognizable and left to rot on the beach when the owner
couldn't restore it to its pre-war majesty. The boat was rescued and restored
after efforts led by Meghan Wren as a College student 30 years ago! You might
recognize this name as the 48-year-old woman who was the first to swim across
the Delaware Bay (13.1 Miles) from Delaware to New Jersey on Sunday August 5. She
did this to help draw attention to the future health of the Delaware Bay and
the communities hurt by Hurricane Sandy.
Help hoist the sails or just
sit back and watch. Enjoy the sights on this 2 1/2 hour sail! BYO refreshments,
drinks and snacks. (adult beverages OK too!) They have evening sails perfect to
just relax before the sunsets, Pirate Sails for the "scally-wag" in
