I asked one of my associates at Robert Paul Properties to write a guest blog about Marion and the South Coast of MA. The TV show Chronicle, Channel 5 out of Boston, is going to spotlight the area around Marion MA and Westport MA area in their show this week. One highlight may be the Marion to Bermuda race.

Here is what Cassy West, real estate professional at Robert Paul Properties, has to say about Marion and the South Coast.

The Southcoast of Massachusetts has always been a secret - a hidden gem located on the south eastern shore of Buzzards Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. It doesn’t have the traffic and congestion that Cape Cod endures every summer, but it does have the cooling sea breezes, the quaint seaside villages, and it’s a quick 45 minute drive to Providence or an hour to Boston.

The 7 coastal towns that line Buzzards Bay, Wareham, Marion, Mattapoisett, Fairhaven, New Bedford, Dartmouth and Westport; have a unique beauty and flavor that cannot be found anywhere else. Each town has a character different from the other.

Wareham, also known as the “Gateway to Cape Cod”, has over 54 miles of coastline enhanced by beautiful beaches, estuaries and rivers, as well as many cranberry bogs that are owned by the world’s largest cranberry grower. A.D. Makepeace.

Mattapoisett is known for its large harbor open to the prevailing southwest breeze which is a day sail across the bay to Woods Hole and the Elizabeth Islands. In the village is Shipyard Park, home to community concerts, gatherings and “Harbor Days”, a seaside festival in mid-summer. The “Inn” at Shipyard Park and the Town Wharf General Store provide great food and entertainment for residents and visitors year round.

New Bedford, the heart of the Southcoast, with its historic downtown, is known for its important role in the whaling industry. The city is filled with culture and festivals all year long that it was named the 7th most Artistic City in the Country. AHA! (Arts, History and Architecture) Night is a free arts and cultural event which takes place once a month. With its cobblestone streets, the Whaling Museum and hundreds of restaurants and shops, there is so much to see and do.

The Southcoast of Massachusetts is a wonderful place to live and work. It consists of communities that are vibrant and booming with jobs, excellent schools, beautiful coastlines and a rich history that residents are proud to call home.
