Life in a small town

By Gwen Cook | Agent in Harvard, MA

This is why I love Harvard

Life in my small townI took this picture the morning after Halloween last year.  And, as I drove to the barn to feed my horse this morning, the brisk 43 degree temps and thick mist in the low areas of the road felt more like late October than early September.

I love this time of year!  Starting at the end of August, Harvard

absolutely revels in small town activities.  We have a Farmers' Market in it's second, very successful, year.  On Columbus Day weekend, we celebrate the apple harvest on the town Common with activities, music, and lots of home made pie!  In my opinion, one of Nature's most perfect foods!
And just down the road, on the lawn in front of the Library, the League of Women Voters sponsors a huge flea market.  Well, it's not exactly Brimfield, but for Harvard it's huge.  We spend the whole day wandering through the booths, eating too much at the Lion's Club hamburger stand or the Rib Joint, and buying cool stuff.

Walking around town, meeting friends, eating pie, enjoying the Autumn weather.  At the risk of being trite, it's quintessential small town life at it's very best!

This is one of the aspects of life in Harvard that makes me love living here.  I'll be writing here about other places and events that I love.  I hope you'll start to get a picture of the town.  I've lived here for more than 30 years, so if you have any questions about my town, I can answer or find someone who knows.

Stay tuned!
