Aspen, Almost 100% Perfect

In a recent poll taken by the National Research Center in Boulder for the city of Aspen, it was found that Aspenites are some of the happiest people on earth. Of the 277 respondents, sixty-two percent described their quality of life as ‘excellent,’ while another 33% described their quality of life as ‘good,’ resulting in a 95% rate of happiness in Aspen.

Eighty-four percent of poll participants said they were either ‘somewhat satisfied,’ or ‘satisfied’ with city services

The report also indicated that most Aspenites believe the city does an ‘excellent,’ or ‘good’ job of informing residents about events, activities and news within the city.

It’s no wonder the residents of Aspen are so happy. One glance at the events and activities in Aspen during 2011, both sponsored by the city and privately sponsored, illustrates a vibrant, fun-loving and generous community.

On the hill in 2011, Aspen hosted the 12th annual X Games, the FIS Alpine World Cup Ski Racing, Aspen Gay Ski Week and the Summit For Life. Aspen/Snowmass had one of their longest ski seasons ever with amazing powder right up until late spring.

With all that fun on the mountain, the après ski scene was super hot in 2011, with Belly Up Aspen providing hot acts every weekend, and many week nights as well. The Bud Light Hi- Fi Free concerts were a huge hit. And of course Aspenites never pass on an opportunity to celebrate their European roots; as a result the 2011 Oktoberfest this year was more fun than ever.

The Aspen Art Museum and the Aspen Ideas Festival kept the city’s intellectuals busy this year. The Aspen Art Museum’s commitment to experimental art, and its recognition of artists locally and internationally, continue to make it a keystone in the Aspen community. This year’s Idea Festival drew internationally recognized politicians, writers, intellects and innovators to the community to discuss a better tomorrow. The support within the community for these activities ensures Aspen’s place within the greater intellectual community of the world.

The Food & Wine Festival during the summer, the Grand Cochon at the Classic, along with the Chili Pepper and Brew Fest and the Winterskol soup contest remind residents and visitors that Aspen is a serious ‘foodie’ town, not to be taken for granted or written off. Fine dining, or simply good hearty food is available year-round and on practically every corner in Aspen.

The Aspen Fashion Week ensures that Aspenites don’t turn into a community of ski bums, reminding them to keep up with the latest styles and trends. Meanwhile the Aspen Laff Fest keeps the community laughing, and the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet keeps it on its toes!

Every day, every month and every season of the year, the people of Aspen are enjoying each other, their fabulous community and working to make Aspen and the world a yummier, more beautiful, more educated and altogether more fabulous place.
