Texas Motor Speedway - NRA 500 Race Weekend

This weekend marks the first NASCAR race event of the year at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. Practice starts Thursday, April 11, 2013. Tickets are available at the gate to preview top drivers. Friday and Saturday night's races will be under the lights, beginning as the sun is setting, 7:30PM and 6:30PM respectively. There is no race on Sunday, but many fans will stay for the full weekend of camping.

If you plan to attend the race, plan ahead and have a safe weekend. TMS offers travel packages complete with race tickets, hotel accommodations and round-trip motorcoach transportation.

If you are planning to travel near the TMS, avoid peak times and areas as traffic will be severely congested.

Fort Worth Police Department recommends the following routes to minimize traffic congestion:

Please avoid the TMS area/roads unless you plan on going to the race.

  • Use roads that take you away from this area; then travel in the desired direction you wish to go.
  • If you live west of TMS utilize Highway 114 towards Rhome. This route is longer in distance but it will be faster than trying to travel past TMS. There are numerous county paved and gravel roads that can take you north and south.
  • If you live east of TMS either utilize Highway 114 or Elizabethtown Cemetery Road. Elizabethtown Cemetery Road/Litsey Road will take you to 377 or highway 170 or IH-35W.

So to all you race fans, enjoy the unique food, friendly crowds and, of course, "The Great American Speedway!" And those not going to make it to the race, make a note to enjoy the other side of North Texas this weekend.
