Philadelphia Bike Share Coming To Philadelphia In 2014!

    Bike Share Philadelphia

Oh boy...the likelihood of running over a biker on your commute home just grew exponentially!  By late summer or early fall of 2014 Philadelphia Bike Share will be in Center City Philadelphia.  The basic premise will be the same as other large cities like New York, D.C., London, Paris and others both domestic and abroad – bikes will be available in pre-designated pick up/drop off stations throughout the city and you can pick one up, ride to another location close to your desired destination, and drop the bike off.  So in essence it’s not that different from taking the subway in that the rider will have to know the best locations to pick up and drop off bikes near their ultimate destination.

“Bike Share Philadelphia is a network of organizations and individuals working to bring Public Use Bicycles, bike sharing, to Philadelphia.  Their mission is promoting community use bicycle program to aid personal mobility for our congested city.  Bike share programs provide bicycles to the public for free or at little cost in order to encourage bicycling as a viable form of public transportation, to reduce traffic congestion and to enhance the livability of cities.”

Here’s a map of the planned coverage area

  • Dry Cleaners On Fabric Row Catches Fire In Queen Village

Dry Cleaners On Fabric Row Catches Fire In Queen Village

    Fabric Row Fire Philadelphia

UPDATE (945am): Witnesses say the fire restarted at 1am firefighers continued fighting the fire until 5am.

Yesterday afternoon a fire broke out at the dry cleaners on the corner of 4th and Catharine in Queen Village immediately bringing back memories of the Fabric Row fire from April that claimed the life of a Philadelphia fire captain.  The fire was reported just after 3pm yesterday and while firefighters were able to control the fire before 4pm, chaos ensued into the evening as fire and police blocked off the area near the burning property while neighbors and onlookers gathered. (see update above)  The dry cleaners and fabric store at 771 South 4th Street  is a mixed use property with three residential units located above the commercial space.  The exterior of the building remains intact but dark smoke billowed out of the burning property and the adjacent property, which I own (indicated by red arrow in picture above) for several hours yesterday. My brother Joseph Cesarine who co-owns and occupies the adjacent property at 769 South 4th Street witnessed the entire event and was actually quoted in this article posted on Philly.com at 8pm last night.

"You could tell the smoke was coming out the windows, but it wasn't like billowing out, it was more like seeping out," described Joseph Cesarine, who owns a building next to the fabric store and lives on the first floor. "I went in probably like 10 minutes later to just grab some things and my whole apartment was full of smoke…”It was a weird feeling," Cesarine said. "A lot of neighbors and store owners were outside, and we were talking about how that fire just happened and maybe 4th Street's cursed."

Thankfully, unlike the previous Fabric Row fire nobody was injured or killed.

Nutritious and Delicious! Sip-N-Glo Juicery at 932 South Street

    Sip-N-Glo Juicery

Recently I had the pleasure of stumbling across a Sip-N-Glo Juicery, Philly's newest juice bar on South Street that makes eating ( or drinking I should say) healthy a little bit easier for those of us watching our waist.   All of the ingredients used are freshly picked, or locally sourced and packed full of nutrients. Their menu offers appealing options for experienced juicers, first timers, and even kids. Sip-N-Glo's goal is to send you on your way with a wholesome treat that’s as gratifying as it is guilt-free and after drinking my first juice, I had a burst of energy and felt full too. They have many concoctions to pick from on their menu or  you can build your own too, which the control freak in me absolutely loves. I tried the Green Beast, which is a best seller, containing cucumber, celery, kale, spinach, apple, lemon, ginger & parsley.

  • Jose Garces Working on 3 New Restaurants in Philadelphia

Posted Under: General Area in Philadelphia  |  September 6, 2013 10:10 AM  |  181 views  |  No comments

    Philadelphia Real Estate Blog

Jose Garces is going to be a busy man this Fall, as he takes on 3 new projects from the Philadelphia Airport to Center City. Garces has over 15 restaurants in 5 cities, with some of the top dishes right here in Philly. Amada, Tinto and Village Whiskey are just a few of his award winning restaurants currently open in the Center City area.

Southwest Philadelphia : Garces is consulting on a new swank tavern called Local, opening in Terminal F of the Philadelphia Aiport, which is currently undergoing a makeover this year.

Manayunk: Taqueria Feliz, (Feliz means happy in Spanish) another winner by Jose Garces, Tim Spinner and Brian Sirhal which will be their third spot they have opened and serve delicious Mexican cuisine, located at 4410 Main Street. This restaurant will be in close proximity to Cantina Feliz, which is another mexican hot spot in Manyunk less than 2 miles away. There is no doubt in my mind that Garces' Taqueria will blow it's competition out the water!

Center City: The Kimmel Center,  located just off of Broad and Spruce Street, will be home to another Garces restaurant with a private kitchen named Volver, featuring a champagne and caviar bar. Two giant glass walls separate Spruce Street from the dining room, which will give passersby a good look inside the restaurant.

Sounds like there will be several great new dining options for Fall 2013!

$100 Million WHOLE FOODS Coming To Center City!

Maria Panartitis and Joseph DiStefano of Philly.com are reporting that the Philadelphia Real Estate community can expect “the second-largest Whole Foods Market in the region – just smaller than a suburban behemoth at Plymouth Meeting Mall” to soon appear near the current Whole Foods on the border of the Logan Square and Art Museum Area neighborhoods.  According to DiStefano, Neal Rodin’s International Finance Company (IFC), “plans to build a $100 million Whole Foods supermarket and apartment complex somewhere near the chain’s smaller Art Museum-area location, and has been circulating a plan to do just that on the 2.9-acre site occupied by the Best Western motel, between 21st and 22nd at Spring Garden”

$100 Million WHOLE FOODS Quick Facts

Proposed project encompasses “almost a full square block,” including a “luxury residential midrise containing between 250-300 apartments,”

The current proposal includes underground parking, a lounge/cafe, and retail spaces at 50,000, 30,000, 11,000, 9,000 and 5,000 square feet.

Principals envision a Whole Foods on par with the one currently located on Columbus Circle in Manhattan.

Rodin plans to make details of project known within 90 days

Whole Foods has signed a lease with Rodin’s company for the new store at an undisclosed location “near its longstanding 20th and Callowhill Streets store, also near the Art Museum”.

Obviously this is major news.  I’ll put up additional posts as information starts to come in.

Steve Wynn Taking Another Shot At A Casino In Philadelphia

Rumors are swirling in the Philadelphia Real Estate community that Las Vegas casino magnate Steve Wynn will again attempt to bring a casino to Philadelphia.  Numerous sources are reporting that Wynn will apply forPhiladelphia’s remaining casino license so he can build a casino and hotel in Fishtown on the waterfront.  A quick Google search confirmed the rumors.  Here’s what Philly.com is reporting:

“The Las Vegas casino operator confirmed in a telephone interview this morning that he will file an application with the state’s Gaming Control Board to secure the city’s second casino license.  He said he has an option for the parcel of land controlled by builder James Anderson on North Beach Street, just north of Penn Treaty Park. Today, he added, Wynn Resorts will present the Nutter administration with a local impact report…An artist rendering of the project, Wynn said, will not be ready until Tuesday. But he added that the hotel for “Wynn Philadelphia” would resemble the company’s Encore hotel in the Chinese city of Macau.  The deadline for filing a casino application with the state is Nov. 15. Two other contenders already have come forward with plans, including local developer Bart Blatstein and a partnership including the company behind Parx Casino and the Cordish Cos. of Baltimore.  Wynn said he would build a 150,000 square foot casino for 900 to 1,000 slot machines and 100 table games. The hotel would have 300 rooms.  “It’s such a perfect site,” Wynn said. “It allows for the kind of growth and the creation of a destination resort that these local casinos haven’t done before.”

Wynn Philadelphia marks Steve Wynn’s second attempt at bringing a casino to Philadelphia.  . In April 2010, Wynn was involved in the Foxwoods Casino project momentarily before he abruptly withdrew from the project
