  • A St. Patrick’s Menu That Your Guests Will Enjoy!

If you are throwing a St. Paddy’s Day celebration this year, here are a few great ideas for a menu that your guests will love, and that will make the event a little more family friendly!

    Traditional Fare With A Twist

There are a few ways you can create appetizing nibbles for your guests while still keeping the Irish theme.  Try adding some Guinness to a cheddar fondue, or a few twists with the infamous Irish potato such as serving roasted potato wedges or potato skins.  You can also use the color green as a food-related theme in your menu by serving such things as a spinach dip or guacamole.  Certainly not traditional Irish fare, but they will definitely be a hit at any St. Patrick’s Day Party!

    Going The More Traditional Route

If you want to delight your guests with a more traditional menu, then your best bet is going with a sit-down dinner.  Corned beef and cabbage is definitely about as traditional as it gets, but you can also choose a more popular vegetable for the finicky eaters, such as broccoli.  Potatoes should definitely make an appearance on the plate of a traditional St. Patrick’s Day feast, and mashed goes well with the corned beef.  If you are really feeling ambitious then try making some Irish soda bread to accompany the meal.  For dessert, a cake decorated with a shamrock will finish off the meal nicely.

    Don’t Forget The Drinks!

Let’s face it, St. Patrick’s Day wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s Day without a few drinks, but for those you don’t like a thick stout or green beer and are looking for a more family friendly option, there are alternatives.  If you prefer cocktails, then any drink with a little crème de menthe added for the green color can add a festive touch.  Whiskey is also a very popular Irish drink and can be served straight or mixed.  For the non-alcoholic crowd or the kids any drink with a green color, such as limeade, will keep the theme going.

St. Patrick’s Day is a great time to have a party with friends and family, and these tips can help you create an event to suit any taste!

  • St. Patrick’s Day Ideas For Family Fun

    Posted Under: Entertainment & Nightlife in Marlton  |  February 17, 2013 11:32 AM  |  516 views  |  2 comments

St. Patrick’s Day is an Irish holiday that is celebrated every year in March, but it’s not just the Irish that enjoy this festive occasion.  In fact, people around the nation celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with parades, green attire and even parties that bring family and friends together.  Speaking of family, there are a number of ways that you can make St. Patrick’s Day a festive and fun-filled family holiday.

    Take Part In a Parade

Whether you are involved directly or simply enjoy watching a St. Patrick’s Day parade from the sidelines, make sure that you attend at least one.  These festive events include everything from music to floats and local residents coming together to celebrate this annual holiday.  You can enjoy a parade with your family by participating together, or simply by watching from afar.

    Dress The Part

One of the longest standing traditions for St. Patrick’s Day is the requirement of green attire.  Whether it’s a shirt, shamrock pin, pants or even a jacket, not wearing green often means you get pinched from good-natured family and friends.  If you want to join in on the celebration as a family, make sure that everyone is wearing green before leaving the house.

    Have A Party

If you really want to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, do so by hosting a party in your home.  You can invite family, friends, neighbors and other local residents who share in your festiveness.  Because the color green is so commonly associated with St. Patrick’s Day, it’s only natural that you would want to serve lime JELL-O, ice cream and even green KOOL-AID to your guests.  Don’t forget to decorate with the green theme in mind by using holiday plates, cups and napkins, table coverings, streamers and even balloons.

    Festive Dining

For Thanksgiving, many families eat turkey.  For St. Patrick’s Day, many families eat cabbage because, well, it’s green.  Green beans, vegetables, spinach, fruits and other green foods also remain popular choices for those looking to dine with the green theme in mind.

    Look For Luck

When it comes to luck, the four-leaf clover is a very common symbol and it is also associated with St. Patrick’s Day.  This means that one of the best ways to enjoy family fun on this festive holiday is to go out in search of four-leaf clovers.  Children especially love this and they feel a great sense of accomplishment if they locate the rare find.  One of the greatest places to start looking is in your own backyard.

  • Safety Tips For Barbeque & Grilling

Posted Under: General Area in New Jersey, Entertainment & Nightlife in New Jersey, Investment Properties in New Jersey  |  July 26, 2012 3:37 PM  |  358 views  |  No comments

A barbeque is an outdoor meal or party at which food is prepared on a rack over a grill.  This popular past time has become a tradition for many families, especially those hosting a backyard party for family and friends.  When working with a grill of any kind, it’s important to observe a few safety tips that will ensure a happy and healthy meal for everyone.

    Inspect Your Grill

When the temperatures heat up, so do many outdoor grills.  It’s always important to inspect your grill before each use, but especially before the first use of the season.  It’s a good idea to look for any damage that may have occurred throughout the winter or a breakdown of the grill’s structure.  If you have any concerns, call an expert or consider purchasing a new grill.  Never use a grill that’s damaged or seems to be working improperly.

    Cool Cooking Tips

Before starting to grill, make sure that your unit is placed on a flat and stable surface.  It’s important to have everything in order beforehand because you should not move a grill while it’s in use.  As is the case with any type of meal preparation, making sure that the food is properly cooked is a must.  Therefore, many experts recommend using a meat thermometer to ensure that the food is cooked thoroughly and ready for consumption.

    Child Safety

When it comes to grilling, children love the smell of a hot dog or hamburger being cooked outdoors on a warm summer afternoon.  But, despite their fascination with the process, it’s important that children not be allowed near an unattended grill.  In addition to an adult always being nearby, it’s essential that little ones not be in a position where they could put their hands anywhere near the cooking surface or the grill itself.

    Cleaning Up After A Cookout

Grills vary from one to another, which is why reading the manufacturer’s instructions for care, maintenance, cleanup and storage are essential to both the longevity of your grill and the health and well being of those around you.  Follow the instructions as provided by the manufacturer, and always make sure to keep your cooking utensils clean.

Now that you know how to enjoy grilling safely in the great outdoors, all that you need to do is to invite some friends and family over for a backyard barbecue and enjoy the unmistakable taste that no other type of cooking can provide.

  • Planning A Fun Fourth Of July Block Party

Posted Under: General Area in New Jersey, Entertainment & Nightlife in New Jersey, In My Neighborhood in New Jersey  |  June 13, 2012 9:00 AM  |  274 views  |  No comments

Independence Day is a great opportunity to get your neighborhood together to celebrate our great nation, and what could be more American than the block party! It is a great and inexpensive way to get to know your neighbors and add a more traditional community feel to your street. Here’s what you need to get the planning started!

    Talk To Your Neighbors

Party planning is fun, but it is always easier when you have help, and since it’s a neighborhood event you’ll need to get everyone involved. Approach a few of your neighbors to ask for help and to get a good idea of what day would be best to host the event. People often travel during the long weekend, so perhaps hosting the event on a weeknight may bring out more of the community.

    Plan The Event!

Block parties can range from a barbeque in one neighbor’s yard to a full street-wide party. If you have enough interested people and are thinking of blocking off your street to host the event, then you’ll have to contact your local city hall to get permission. This way you can be sure that no cars will disturb your set-up or cause a danger to children. You’ll also want to consider whether alcohol will be served and how best to approach this. In general it is usually best to have everyone bring their own drinks to an event such as this. Once the details are sorted out create a flyer to pass out to all your neighbors.

    What’s On The Menu?

It wouldn’t be a block party or the Fourth of July without food, and in keeping with the theme you should plan all-American fare such as hamburgers and hotdogs. This will make your menu easy to prepare and inexpensive as well. To cut down costs you may want to consider a potluck event. This is also a great way to get to know your neighbors and try some new recipes. If you do go with a potluck block party be sure you have a sign-up system to ensure there are no duplicates and that all the necessary courses are covered.

A Fourth of July Block Party is a great way to show your American pride in your community and a fun way to spend some time with your friends and neighbors. You may even want to end the night with a fireworks display to truly get into the spirit of this important day. You may even decide to make the party an annual event!

  • Create A Romantic Dining Room For Valentine’s Day

Posted Under: General Area in Marlton, Entertainment & Nightlife in Marlton, Shopping & Local Amenities in Marlton  |  February 4, 2012 11:36 AM  |  401 views  |  No comments

Create A Romantic Dining Room For Valentine’s Day

With times being as tough as they are, finding the money to make a special Valentine’s Day for your sweetheart can be difficult.  Whether it is your loving spouse of 20 years or the new special someone in your life, giving them a Valentine’s Day to remember without looking cheap can be made simple by creating a romantic dining experience at home.  Here are a few ideas to create a romantic dining room for Valentine’s Day that will look like a million, but cost you virtually nothing!

    Set The Scene!

Creating a romantic dining room can be accomplished with just a few simple elements.  Since it is Valentine’s Day, flowers are a must.  In addition to a beautiful arrangement for your sweetheart, a nice arrangement for the center of the table can really show you have put thought into the night.  A great way to cut costs is to go for something a little less pricey for the centerpiece, such as some red carnations.  Candles are also a must for Valentine’s Day and are a great and inexpensive way to set a romantic mood.  A few well-placed tapered and votive candles are all you really need, and choosing ones that are red, pink, and white will keep the table looking well put together.  Final touches should not be ignored.  A nice tablecloth, some cloth napkins, and maybe a few rose petals scattered on the table can create that finished romantic look!  Don’t forget to use real cutlery and your best plates and wine glasses, accompanied by some soft romantic music.

    A Meal To Remember

Another important element to creating a romantic dining room for Valentine’s Day is having a delicious meal.  If you can’t cook yourself, getting takeout from a nice restaurant is always an option, but trying to create a meal yourself will no doubt be appreciated, as well as keep your budget in check. Something simple like a nice salad and pasta meal is inexpensive and easy to prepare.  Remember that it is the details that really show you care, so selecting fresh healthy ingredients, creating easy courses, and not forgetting dessert will win over even the most reluctant Valentine.

These ideas may seem simple, and that’s because they are.  It is the thought that counts, and putting effort into creating a beautiful meal in a special setting can create a romantic mood for a small amount of money!
