Finding the Perfect Chicago Home

House hunting can be a very emotional process. Essentially, you’re looking for a place to build your future. This is the place that you and your family are going to call home; the place where you’re going to make memories. But, what if you can’t find that place within your price range? Or in the right neighborhood? Or with all of the amenities you expect?

These are common frustrations many house hunters experience. But if you spent more than three or four months searching through Chicago homes for sale and found nothing, it may be time to reevaluate a few things.

Are you really ready to buy?
You may want a new home, but deep down, are you seriously prepared to take on all the responsibilities that a new home entails? If your finances aren’t in order, or your credit history is a little splotchy, you may be subconsciously trying to put this off because, in reality, you really don’t want to make the dive.

So, make sure the time to buy is now.

Maybe It’s Time for A New Broker
Chicago real estate agents are responsible for pulling listings and showing you homes that meet your criteria; is your representative doing just that? If your broker is showing you homes in neighborhoods that don’t interest you, or homes that don’t have the non-negotiable features you requested, maybe they’re not really listening to you. You deserve a broker who values your money and takes your needs seriously. Make sure your agent is providing exactly what you deserve.

Be Ready to Compromise
If you haven’t found your dream home yet, your expectations may be part of your problem. Evaluate your list of new home must-haves and see if you can adjust anything. A long list of lofty criteria can cause your search to carry on too long. So, get out of your own way and be prepared to settle for a kitchen that doesn’t have six burners or a mounted TV.

If the property meets your most basic criteria, you can always add amenities later.

Consider A Different Location
You may want to live in the Gold Coast, but if your budget is screaming Lincoln Park, you’re better off being realistic about finding an affordable property in a neighborhood you can actually afford.

Like the city itself, the Chicago real estate market is very diverse. With a variety of properties to choose from, a little patience and being honest with yourself will serve you well as you hunt for your dream home.
