Announcing the Trulia Mayors

Trulia is excited to introduce our ‘Trulia Mayor’ program, a new initiative that will help strengthen and expand the Trulia Voices community including nearly 400,000 real estate professionals.

Trulia Mayors are great social media role models and innovators, and will represent the opinions of real estate professionals in various Trulia efforts.  Mayors will attend frequent roundtable meetings, get sneak peeks of upcoming projects and will provide their input in content quality matters on Trulia Voices. Additionally, Trulia Mayors will be participating in various PR and marketing efforts, such as co-hosting local events and co-authoring newsletters and articles, to spread their knowledge and provide expert advice to consumers and professionals alike. Bottom line - it's pretty cool.

You can identify the Trulia Mayors in the Trulia Voices community by a special Mayor badge. They will also continue participating on the Trulia Voices community by asking and answering questions and blogging. The Trulia Mayors will be at your assistance when you have questions or concerns about Trulia or the Trulia Voices community, and they will be happy to share their experiences and knowledge.

The inaugural Trulia Mayors are five real estate professionals who have led by example within the Trulia Voices community, and we’re thrilled that each of them accepted their volunteer Mayoral appointments!  It’s a great start to a program that will eventually include a representative from each state.

So who are they?  Let us introduce you!

Josh Boggs (San Antonio, TX) – Owner of Exposed Homes – Trulia Pro
Josh moved to San Antonio in 2000 and has flourished in his new found home.  Having a strong background in financial management, consulting and multi-family property management, residential real estate consulting was inevitably waiting for him right around the corner.  Believing wholeheartedly about reviving what is now considered a long lost art in today’s business world, Josh has brought his passion for helping people, valuable experience, sense of humor and enjoyment into his real estate career to hopefully remind his clients and potential clients that customer service is still alive and kicking in his domain.  He now owns and controls the marketing company eXposed Homes located at Keller Williams and are barreling through their 3rd year of operation.

Maureen Francis (Birmingham, MI) – Associate Broker at SKBK Sotheby’s International Realty –Trulia Pro – 2008 Trulia MVP
As a top producing Realtor in Birmingham, Michigan, she, and her husband, Dmitry Koublitsky, have been selling residential real estate in some of Metro Detroit's most affluent suburbs since 2001.  The couple met in Ukraine, where Maureen worked as a consultant on projects for the US government, The World Bank and The United Nations, after serving in the first group of US Peace Corps volunteers in the former Soviet Union.

Maureen and Dmitry have built much of their business through technology, by using the web to help them to unite buyers with sellers.  Maureen was recently recognized by the Women's Council of Realtors for her use of technology, and she has received awards for blogging over the years.  Maureen blogs at www.miOaklandCounty.com.

Deborah Madey (Rumson, NJ) – Broker/Owner of Penninsula Realty – Trulia Pro – 2008 Trulia MVP
Deborah is a social media enthusiast with more than 2700 comments in Trulia Voices.  See her Trulia profile here: http://www.trulia.com/profile/DeborahMadeyNewJersey/

Alan May (Evanston, IL) –  Realtor at Coldwell Banker – 2008 Trulia MVP
Alan brings a casual sense of humor to his postings (as you can tell from his ever-changing Elvis-inspired icons), here on Trulia and has has been a regular contributor to Trulia Voices since 2007 which lead to him becoming a Trulia MVP for 2008. Additionally, Alan has contributed to several other real estate related sites over the past few years.

 Alan has been a Realtor with one of the top Coldwell Banker offices in the Chicago area for almost 10 years, and has been consistently an award-winning agent, as well as one of the top producers in his area. He's a low-key agent, and views himself more as a consultant, than a salesman.

Carl Medford (Fremont, CA) – Agent at Windermere – Trulia Pro
With the motto of, “Helping You Write The Next Chapter In Your Life,”™ Carl is one of the "next generation" of Web-based REALTORS.  Carl typically transforms any local coffeehouse into an office; meeting with clients in any location and conducting business while enjoying the best coffee available! Instead of focusing on a specific neighborhood, Carl has earned the distinction of being a "Regional Expert," tracking trends and critical information in multiple markets, thus bringing the broadest possible expertise and service to his clients.

In addition to being a REALTOR, Carl is a licensed general contractor and also owns "The Next Stage," a fully professional and accredited home staging company. Lastly, Carl has developed “The Ultimate Home Buying Experience,™”. He is featured weekly in “Real Estate Reality” in the Real Estate section of the San Leandro Times and Castro Valley Forum newspapers.

By Bonnie Sterling,  Tue Sep 15 2009, 19:56
@ Rudy. This is one of the things that make Trulia a great company and sets them apart from others in our industry. This seems directly in response to feedback from REBarCamp and your recent survey. As time permits, I hope that more Mayors for other areas will be added (Ok, and I'll admit, I hope I will be one someday.)
By Rudy Bachraty,  Tue Sep 15 2009, 20:12
@debbie - Couldn't agree more!

@bonnie - Thank you so much. The idea for this program goes back many months and each member has been a standout within the community for quite some time. The new Trulia Mayors and the community will help us shape the future of the program. So let's all work together to make Trulia even better for consumers and for real estate pros! PS - thanks for throwing your hat in the ring :)

By Len McGuirk,  Wed Sep 16 2009, 04:55
I would be interested in being a Trulia Mayor to represent my local area of Las Vegas. I believe I have a lot to bring to the table. My area has a lot of real estate activity currently and I am always happy to share my knowledge and expertise. I have been a member of Trulia since the beginning and have been a Trulia Voices major contributor for a while now. Please advise how I can volunteer for this position as well. Sounds like a great idea!
By Alan May,  Wed Sep 16 2009, 05:52
Dunes - if you know some things about me, maybe we could sit and talk... my memory's been a little slack lately, and I could use someone to fill me in.

Laura - I prefer Señor Mayor

This is such a truly exciting venture for me to be a part of and it once again points to exactly why I feel and have come to know that Trulia is by far the most impressive and informative real estate website and forum out there! I am looking forward to interacting with each and every single one of you and many of you I have already had the pleasure. Thank you to Matt, I know exactly who else in my San Antonio market I will be looking for to bounce off advice and opinions to as he's also a great contributor to our local area here on Trulia.
By Rudy Bachraty,  Wed Sep 16 2009, 09:55
@ralph and Tricia - Thank you!

@matt - Thanks! Josh is great....

@rich - Muchos gracias Rich! Maureen has been a leader for a long time both on Trulia on off. Very happy to have her as a Trulia Mayor.

@kamal - Thanks. Just let us know what help you need and we'll be happy to assist.

@diane - Thank you. Voices is a great real estate social network and it will only get better over time in both quality of conversations and features.We just all have to work at it together to make it happen.

@john - :)

@jim - I agree - Deb does rock!

@chris and maria - Thank you. The community has come a long way but we still have some work to do.....

@bill - Agreed! From my experience knowing Maureen over the last few years, she's a pro. Besides, you gotta love her taste in music :)

@tboard - Thanks!

@anne - Thanks!

@laura - I think he prefers something else :)

@len - Thanks for throwing your hat out there and for being active on Voices! We plan on rolling out more states and selecting more mayors in the future but right now we want to support of first 5 mayors in making this program work. Of course, we'll be learning along the way and will be taking mayor and community feedback for future program ideas.

If anyone wants to be a mayor, please continue to be active and helpful to others on Trulia and write a blog post telling us why you should be one of our next mayors. We will be watching.

@alan - aka Elvis aka Senor Mayor :)

@reza - Thanks for your support. Active Rain is great too but we felt we wanted to highlight local community advocates on Voices who have led by example. As mayors, they will help us shape some of the new things that we will introduce to Trulia. Something we're very excited about.
By Rudy Bachraty,  Wed Sep 16 2009, 10:07
@rhonda - Thanks for you and your teams support. Keep on doing great things and connecting with buyers and sellers!

@marnie - I agree. Great way to improve engagement within the community.

@carolynn - "It is refreshing to see agents/brokers getting "awarded" for knowledge and participation rather than purchasing a spot." - This is only the start. There are so many fantastic agents on Voices and some outstanding buyer/seller contributors that we will be looking at in the future.

Welcome Mayors and congratulations on this great achievement! It's so wonderful to have you all on board. You all are fantastic role models for our community and I can't wait to work with you all to make Trulia Voices better and better.
By Broker Dave - CDPE | GRI | e-PRO | REPM,  Wed Sep 16 2009, 10:59
Another Great Idea!

Trulia gets it, they are ever evolving while staying mission focused on offering cutting edge technology to not only Buyers and Sellers of Real Estate surfing the net for answers but service providers also.

As a Realtor offering my services I’ve had ongoing discussions with a Trulia staff member (name withheld) about my experience with buyers who found me through the Voices feature of the website. The staff called the buyer's to get their thoughts on the experience of going from a question to a relationship with a Realtor they had never met; the staff received the thumbs up.

I would have never met these Buyers or Sellers if not for Trulia Voices, A BIG THANKS.
By Sam Gerardi,  Wed Sep 16 2009, 11:44
This is a GREAT program and very positive for the market. Congratulations to all the Mayors - We are very proud of Maureen Francis at SKBK Sotheby's International Realty. Maureen is an early adapter to technology, a dedicated Realtor and wonderful person. Good Work!

Great Move making Carl Medford Mayor! I didn't get the chance to vote, but rest assured it would have been for Carl. He is a "one and only" serving his clients in an honest and professional manner without regard for self and dedicating time to getting it right for each client... Congratulations Carl!
By Diana Welch,  Wed Sep 16 2009, 13:59
Congratulations to the Mayors and Trulia for presenting top-notch, professional and available experts to represent the industry! I hope to see more, in other areas soon.

I am honored to have been chosen, especially with such great counterparts. I've been a fan of Trulia from the beginning and truly enjoy watching the site grow.
Congrats to the Mayors! I look forward to more developments around this initiative.

I feel like I'm seeing a list of old friends. I haven't been on the national voices for a bit - I've been focused on my market and blogging.
Just tonight at a community meeting after I introduced myself the person next to me said my name had come up just today as he and friends were looking for advice on loan modifications and they saw a previous response on Trulia that answered their question.
Trulia Voices is the best.

That's just what we need--more politicians. Good Luck
By George Szkup,  Wed Sep 16 2009, 22:02
I am not certain that I understand specifically what Trulia Mayors are going to do? I do participate in Tulia Voices - are these people going to be Super Trulia Voices? Most questions that I see are real estate activity specific. Most of the information needed for answers can be provided (for particular state/region) by any Broker with some experience and ability for writing? I have no doubt that being a Trulia Mayor for a particular city will be terrific advertising for a particular person?

Hey Jim....Thanks! Rudy, thanks, too.

I am honored that Trulia asked me to participate as a mayor. My intro to social media was Trulia....and, now, having spent time on many plaforms, networks and sites...I can say that Trulia really rocks! And I will be saying that tonight in my short intro that I am doing at a Social Media Club meeting in NJ. I am not the featured speaker, only doing a short intro on my experiences in social media....and that all started right here. http://bit.ly/4sXlLW

Hate to ruin the party but in my humble opinion Trulia customer service is the absolute worst. They NEVER answer the phone and they don't return email with tech questions. If we treated our clients/customers like they treat us we'd have none. Their main interest is gaining new members not keeping the ones they have happy. Lastly, most agents that really do a ton of business, at least in my area, can't be found on Trulia. What does that tell you.
By Rudy Bachraty,  Thu Sep 17 2009, 12:02
Hi Jim!

So sorry to hear that. We take customer service very seriously and your satisfaction is really important to us.

We see your email from today and are replying as I type this. Usually, we reply to emails within 24-48-hours. Additionally, we will be calling you this afternoon to follow up.

Just an FYI, phone support is only available to Trulia Pro subscribers so I'm not sure what number you called. Besides emailing us, if you have a question about Trulia, a good place to start is our online help center:

http://bit.ly/trulia-help-center

We have FAQ's there for many common questions about Trulia and how to use our site.

Thank you for your patience Jim!

Along with Josh, Maureen, Deborah and Alan, I am TRULY delighted and, I confess, a bit blown away by the honor. None of us are completely aware of what this involves, but I’m sure we’ll be “learning on the job.” We’re all on Trulia because we believe in what is happening here and how it represents the leading edge of real estate technology and practice. There will be bumps in the road, there always are, but I have been tremendously BLESSED by my relationship with Trulia so far and am looking forward with expectation to where this next adventure will lead all of us.

Thanks so much for your encouragement and support!

Thanks Betina. It really is quite an honor to be selected from among the thousands of Trulia members, for this very special recognition... As Carl mentions, none of us quite knows what this means, nor what to make of it, but it really is humbling to be selected from such an august body of professionals to represent some of the best of the best.

Thank you.

The true spirit of this aspect of Trulia is giving to others a small portion of what we do well. Time, effort, and compassion.....humor, wit, and sorrow offered to people in need does make a difference....a difference that in most cases, we will never come to understand.

Thank you to all Trulia PROS who contribute regularly....especially the most deserving new "Trulia Mayors."

Congrats!!!!

Connecting to fellow Realtors and helping the community of readers on Trulia has to be a good position to hold. Congratulations on the great idea and to the Mayors! I have been a member of Active Rain for years, and do feel a sense of community with our groups. Sharing ideas and helpful tips is so useful in this economy. I look forward to contributing here, along with all of you, on Trulia.

I love this concept. I'm very pleased with Trulia. I love the Q/A forum even more than blogging. Trulia truly does lead the online field in the real estate arena. Keep the innovative and progressive marketing ideas coming and I'm looking forward to volunteering as a Mayor in my area of North San Diego County Coastal.
