Last night was a town hall meeting at Mission High School with such participants as District 8 Supervisor Scott Weiner, Mayor Ed Lee, SF District Attorney George Gascon, amongst many other SF officials. It was great to get an update of the city and to see where things are going. The budget and the $330 million deficit for this year were obviously the big issues of the night and people wanted to know where the money was going to be taken from. Each Department head got up and spoke about how they were making cuts and made commitments to the citizens that they would strive to retain the same level of service. The Parks and Rec department had a great speech where he went into depth of all the projects that were moving forward, including a new soccer field, and children's park in the Mission, the renovation of Dolores Park, and upgrading the park around the Randall Children's Museum. The Mayor also committed to focusing on underserved youth in San Francisco and the head of the Public Heath Department said that no money was being cut from the HIV/AIDS programs in the city up through the current budget ending in October. Overall a very productive meeting with lots of good news about District 8 and the work being done in the city....
