Rendering/Reality Vintage Edition: DoBro's BellTel Lofts

A Curbed tipster forwards along a digital clipping from the November 17, 1929 edition of the New York Times announcing the start of construction on a 27-story telephone company tower at the corner of Willoughby and Bridge Streets in Downtown Brooklyn. Yes, it's the BellTel Lofts in a time before iPods and reality TV and CAD, but the "architect's drawing" that ran with the story pretty much nails it, no? The Times reported a total building cost of $5.5 million (about $66 million today, according to an online inflation calculator), and the timing of the story just goes to show that a dab of market turmoil can't stop the cranes. Er, right?
