CurbedWire: St. Brigid's Seeing Signs, Madison Square Park Evictions, Water Street's Remodel

EAST VILLAGE—

It appears that the powers that be at St. Brigid's on Avenue B behind Tompkins Square Park have decided to finally spend some of those millions—on hot new signage! Reads the banner, "Restoration of a church, rebirth of a parish." Perhaps the lengthy asbestos removal job going on inside the 160-year-old landmark is complete, and now the serious restoration work can get underway. Another photo after the jump. Like sand slipping through our fingers, such is the fate of New York City's public art projects. Based on the cherry picker and scurrying workers seen in some photos relayed via a Curbed tipster's cameraphone, it looks like artist Tadashi Kawamata's "Tree Huts" are finally being yanked from the brush above Madison Square Park. Hoovervilles, they are not. [CurbedWire Inbox]

FIDI—

Does Water Street need remodeling? Yes, according to the Downtown Alliance, which has tapped Starr Whitehouse Landscape Architects FxFowle Architects to conduct a design study of the street with an eye toward "establishing a new paradigm for commercial, retail and visitor engagement." Folks, we don't need to tell you what this means, but we will anyway: trippy renderings TK! [CurbedWire Inbox]
