If you are a Methuen resident you probably have heard that the City of Methuen has recently announced that they will be spending about 99 million for renovations of the high school. Â I am all for improving our school system and investing in our future. Â However, there is some controversy about the decision because the City of Methuen has also recently announced a large reduction in force in the police and fire departments.
I recently received a letter from the City trying to explain their actions basically stating that the city is receiving a grant from the state to improve the school and if we don't do it now we loose the grant.
One of my biggest questions is how will the city pay for Methuen's share of the renovations? Â It seems to me that tax increases would be inevitable.
Are there any other Methuen residents out there for or against the recently announced plans? Â I'm wondering what others are thinking.
