March 2010 Nor'easter
With rainfall amounts totalling 6 to 8 inches plus in the area, no doubt many listed properties will have flooded basements this week. This can be a very stressful situation for property owners.
With several large storms the past few years I think that every homeowner should consider purchasing the following items, even if your basement is normally dry. I'm amazed at how many people visit the home stores looking for these items during a crises and having them on hand could certainly help avert disaster. Remember, unless you have a special flood insurance policy, home insurance will not likely cover a lost furnance or water heater due to flood waters.
Here is my recommended list of items:
- Portable generator
- Generator transfer switch
- Long extension cords
- Wet dry vac
- Sump pump
- Back-up sump pump
- Large water hoses
- Supplies such as hose clamps and fittings
- Flash lights (head lamps are realy handy)
- Fresh water
- Warm blankets or sleeping bags
- First aid kit
- Portable am/fm radio
These days homes with a generator transfer switch and generator can be a great selling point.
