How much money did you sink into your unpermitted space? Hey, it ain't cheap to throw up walls, electrical systems, HVAC, flooring, etc. If you put all this money into it, you're going to want to see a return-on-investment, no? Well, the tax assessor doesn't want to give you credit for the extra 1000 sq ft guest house you just built because there's no permit and it didn't go through inspections. DOH!
So there you have it, just some of the many reasons why getting a permit is a GOOD IDEA. Sure, it costs more upfront -- but isn't it better than having it bite you in your permitless behind later?
