ACC apartment certification course starts in October
Austin Community College, with support from the TAA Education Foundation (TAAEF) and the Austin Apartment Association (AAA) is set to launch its Apartment Professional Certificate and Internship Program in October 2011.
The course goals are to recruit new talent into the industry, to prepare and educate students about the multifamily industry and to provide “hands-on†training. The course helps students learn the common career path for someone entering the industry and gives them a jump-start on their career with a leasing professional designation.
The certificate program is an intensive three-week course that includes an internship. The program educates students on various topics, including an introduction to the multifamily housing industry, business writing, legal issues and fair housing laws, and rental policies and procedures related to the apartment industry. Students who complete the course and internship will receive a provisional National Apartment Leasing Professional (NALP) designation.
The Apartment Professional Certificate Internship is a 40-hour optional program. AAA is partnering with several employment agencies to place students in the program, and companies that select students as interns will be offered a discounted rate for the temporary student intern.
Including the optional internship, the course will run for total of 70 hours. The cost, inclusive of all course materials, is $550 per student, with $475 of the total cost being covered by a combination of scholarships given for the first class of students on behalf of AAA and the TAAEF and internship stipends.
