  • Classic comfort and convenience at River Court, Cambridge

Posted Under: Home Buying in Cambridge  |  April 30, 2011 6:18 PM  |  908 views  |  No comments

Built in 1989 as a postmodern revival of the towered parkside luxury that put Central Park West on the map in the 1930s, River Court at 10 Rogers St. in Cambridge stretches beyond CPW's The Beresford, The Century, The Dakota, The Eldorado, The Majestic and San Remo to offer its occupants a riverview as well as a parkview, not to mention the classic comfort and convenience of those famous New York residences.

And at a fair price, too: $569,000 for the 978-square-foot, 1-bed Unit 424, which treats you to stunning vistas of the sparkling Charles River and the breathtaking Boston skyline, as well as high ceilings, crown moldings, cherry floors, updated kitchen, bath and half-bath, upscale building amenities and much more.

The living-dining room combines the classic details of yesteryear — crown molding, chair rail, paneled wainscoting, Grecian fireplace — with the open floor plan of today. A slider window with a French balcony lets you take in the great view more fully.

The open plan conveniently continues from the dining area into the kitchen, where a C-shaped black granite counter terminates at a breakfast bar, classic paneled cabinetry blends with the cherry floors, and state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances show off the sheen of chic cuisine.

The bedroom is fit for a king-size bed with room to spare for home office or sitting space.

The main bath features a deluxe tiled shower with a double-head rain showerhead and body jets for the water massage of a lifetime.

The common roofdeck offers unprecedented city and water vistas, as well as the best views of the July 4 fireworks you'll ever see. Other high-end building amenities include...

    ...a full-size indoor swimming pool...

    ...a state-of-the-art fitness center...

...and a luxurious entry lobby with concierge. The building also boasts an elevator, four levels of underground parking (one deeded space for Unit 424), an entry courtyard, a garden courtyard, and a sculpture courtyard with a form of the goddess Athena.

And look what's within walking distance: shopping and dining galore at CambridgeSide Galleria, the Charles River Bike Path, the Cambridge Athletic Club, connections to all major routes, and a whole lot more.

  • Harvard Square condo blends classic Tudor with contemporary loft lifestyle

    Posted Under: Home Buying in Cambridge  |  March 27, 2011 8:17 AM  |  1,052 views  |  1 comment

For $549,000, Unit 306 at 12 Remington St. offers four much-coveted home assets: classic, contemporary, convenience, and Cambridge. Located in a classic 1900 Tudor village community, this 981-square-foot, 2-bed, 1-bath duplex uses its large spaces and windows and its gabled, skylit slate roof to best advantage to form a contemporary light-filled living arrangement with an upper-level loft. From the common brick walkway, just follow the red brick road to Cambridge's crossroads of culture and commerce: Harvard Square.

A triple window with old leaded glasswork fills the large living room with light and makes the maple hardwood floor gleam. A classic fireplace warms the space and leaves room above for a flat-screen TV or work of art.

The dining room has a quirky octagonal shape for in-the-round sunlight and medieval charm. An original built-in china cabinet with serving shelf and chest of drawers remains. The French door opens out to a private rear balcony.

A granite breakfast bar opens the kitchen out to the dining room for handy food service and chats with the cook. Updated to reflect both classic Tudor style and contemporary tastes, the kitchen has glazed china cabinets like the one in the dining room, granite counters, and stainless steel appliances including gas range and refrigerator with icemaker.

Like the living room, the master bedroom retains its original leaded glass, which lends Cantabrigian class to the space with shield images reminiscent of Harvard's "VERITAS" crest. The shared bath has been renovated with heated floors and attractive tilework.

Upstairs is a versatile custom loft space, built in with desks, counters and cabinets suitable for a home office or crafts room. Unit 306 also has an in-house washer/dryer and locked basement storage.

Harvard Square's rich array of amenities needs no explanation. Restaurants, cafes, newsstands, bookstores, boutiques, musicians, jugglers, chess games, bus and Red Line subway service to Boston and beyond, and, of course, lectures, performances and Extension School classes at Harvard University — it's all there.

  • House-like condo in Cambridge

    The Esplanade, 75-83 Cambridge Parkway

Unlike most condos, Unit E501 at The Esplanade, 75-83 Cambridge Parkway, will make you feel like you're at home in a house, not just another brick in the wall.

Offered at $988,000, this 1,410-square-foot, 1-bedroom, 2-bath unit benefits from the stacked modular unit construction technique the building's architect, Moshe Safdie, had pioneered in Habitat at Expo '67 in Montreal. This allows many of the 206 units private terraces on the roofs of the units below.

From your terrace you and your guests will experience the most breathtaking, wide-reaching riverview of the Boston skyline and the Longfellow Bridge you've ever seen. The common garden with French-style manicured hedges and other lush greenery is also a great place to take in the vista.

E501's luxurious living room readily accesses its terrace, and its double-glazed floor-to-ceiling windows spill light from the riverview's open skies into the unit all day long. These sunny views can be enjoyed from the other rooms as well.

Open to the living-dining room for dinner-party revelry to the max is the custom chef's kitchen with granite counters and state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances, including a vent-hooded cooktop.

The 330-square-foot master bedroom boasts a custom four-piece bath and walk-in closet. A 154-square-foot study and second custom bath complete the unit. The entire unit is prewired for cable, telephone and Internet.

Completed in 1989, The Esplanade — named for the Boston riverside park its units look out onto across the Charles — gives onlookers as well as residents a memorable riverview experience. The modular unit stacks give the building a unique visual effect of steps spilling down toward the river, and an image of a true condo community, not a mere block.

Just marvel at The Esplanade's community amenities: a health club with indoor lap/wading pool, a fully equipped exercise room, saunas, 24-hour concierge and doorman, porters, a gathering room for private parties or meetings, four levels of secured resident garage parking (one deeded space for Unit E501), guest parking, an assigned storage locker for each residence, a lobby with sitting area and Charles River views. Not to mention Cambridge's cultural and educational offerings: MIT, Harvard, bookstores, boutiques, cafes and restaurants galore.

Prices at The Esplanade range from $500,000 to $1.9 million. For more information, or to schedule a private showing, contact CondoDomain Agent Jeanne Boucher at 510-205-5857.

  • Historic Cambridge Condo @ 64 Putnam Ave.

Posted Under: Home Buying in Cambridge  |  March 23, 2010 5:29 PM  |  848 views  |  No comments

Did you know that Cambridge is home to three Revolutionary War era forts-turned-condos? Well, it's true, and now one of these beautifully renovated historic homes, in this case a 3 bedroom condo in an sage-green duplex, is on the market at 64 Putnam Ave in Cambridge, right next to Putnam Square. The condo's 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms sit in 1,474 square feet at the price of $669,000, but what is now a beautifully renovated condo was once a fort ordered to be built by George Washington himself. That's right George Washington.

The Boston Herald's Paul Restuccia reports, "In May 1775 following the siege of Boston, Washington personally ordered construction of the Putnam Avenue fort. (The street is named for Gen. Israel Putnam, who commanded the Connecticut militiamen who built the fort.)" And they've even incorporated a granite marker, which oddly resembles a tombstone, into the new fencing, reminding passersby that the site was once a fort built back in 1775. So what does the fort-turned-condo look like now? Well...

The 108-year-old condo was gut-rehabbed back in 2003, which brought new windows, clapboard, utilities, interiors and roof to the building. The exterior is sage-green with white trim and its facade is interspersed with five windows, one on the first floor in a bay arrangement, and two doors, one for each condo within the duplex. When you step over threshold of 64 Putnam Ave you will find yourself in a 19-by-18-foot living room outfitted with recessed lighting, 9-foot ceilings, a marble-encased gas fireplace, and hardwood floors, probably staring out those beautiful bay windows if its sunny out. The kitchen features classic black-granite countertops with a mosaic-tile backsplash, light maple cabinets, and stainless steel appliances. The master bedroom sports hardwood floors, an overhead fan/light, two windows, a black tile master bathroom, as well as a 5-by-4ft walk-in closet with custom Elfa shelving. The first floor also holds a traditional dining room with two windows, hardwood floors, and chandelier, and the second of three bedrooms, which also has its own bathroom. Downstairs you will find the third and final bedroom, this one slightly larger than the last, a 20-by-12ft family room, and one large, double-door storage closet. The shared backyard is fenced in with a patio, and the duplex has a driveway as well as one deeded parking space.

Only a block from Putnam Square and approximately a half mile from Harvard Square, where you can pick up the Red Line, 64 Putnam Ave is an awesome property in a great neighborhood at a highly accessible location. Check this place out and more at CondoDomain, because when you buy with us WE REFUND YOU with a portion of the commission!
