Capturing & Cleaning Up Stormwater at Paradise Cove
With the help of state and federal grant funds, the new Paradise Cove Stormwater Treatment Facility, a project that promises to improve ocean water quality at one of Malibu's favorite beaches, is now 50% complete.
The facility at Paradise Cove is the City's third new stormwater treatment facility and an essential part of Malibu's commitment to protecting pubic health and cleaning up stormwater and urban runoff.
Project Disinfects Stormwater & Urban Runoff
The Paradise Cove Stormwater Treatment Facility has the capacity to capture, clean and disinfect up to 1 million gallons per day of stormwater and urban runoff from Ramirez Creek and the surrounding watershed. It will remove bacteria and clean up any urban runoff during dry periods, as well. With three different filtration systems, the new facility will quickly and efficiently remove sediment, trash and bacteria from the creek before they reach the ocean.
A $1 million City Investment for Clean Water
With an aggressive outreach for grant funding, the City financed the $1 million project with funding from California's Proposition 40 and from the federal stimulus program.
